Re: Success stories from inexperienced buyers of large boats

I think I would also wager that the vast majority of people out on the water today that do a significant amount of cruising full time or not come from jumping into this with little to no knowledge...

Re: Success stories from inexperienced buyers of large boats

I think your giving yourself too much credit. Just because some asks a question here premised on the fact that they have no experience in what they are asking about doesn’t mean they are going to...

Re: Success stories from inexperienced buyers of large boats

I just curious, isn’t that exactly what CF is here for? I mean if your not here to share what you have learned over the past 30 years so others may benefit from your said experience then why are you...

Re: Boat Yards and DIY

I used Clearlake Marine Center. No hassles at all about doing my own work. Stayed on the boat while on the hard and did my part of the work.

Battery monitor ?

I have a twin diesel m/v that has two dual purpose 8d batteries that are both starting and house batteries. I want to put a battery monitor on them. When I start the engines it can be around 1400...

Re: Boat Broker

The first reply to this thread was correct, I needed to vent my experience. I had and have no desire in this instance to search this forum to read someone else’s past venting rant.

You however...

Re: Boat Broker

Also the point to this thread isn’t really timelines that are out of ones control, but more of a question as to a broker has had a boat listed for 9 months. And has no idea what works and what does...

Re: Boat Broker

Here we go again... another reply from someone who can’t reply to a thread without insulting the OP first. And acts as if his time is being waisted by replying as if he’s obligated to do so.

Boat Broker

I’m curious as to weather or not I am alone in my thinking. We are currently in the process of buying another boat. During our first experience buying our first boat I came away with a not so great...

Re: Newer technology A/C systems

I have no intent on using solar. I believe the others interest are not to run 5 16k BTU units at the same time as I do. Solar would be quite doable for one smaller unit.

Re: Newer technology A/C systems

This is an irrelevant comment. Is there a prize or something I am unaware of on this forum for number of posts? Otherwise I don't see your point of this argument? I'm not trying to win an episode of...

Re: Newer technology A/C systems

Definitely will, I have reached out to a Frigomar dealer to get some feedback on my options, waiting on their input now.

Re: Newer technology A/C systems

Now I think we are on the same page :) I think this assessment is spot on. Surge is an issue for me as I have five 16K BTU units on my boat that at some times of the year need to all run at the same...

Re: Newer technology A/C systems

The difference your not considering with this comparison is the variable speed ability. Yes it may be true that when both are at max output of 16000 BTU's then the amp draw is close to the same, but...

Re: Newer technology A/C systems

Compressor motors can a do draw 7 to 10 times the running amp draw during start up. They want to be at full speed and torque the instant you apply power. A soft start device will control the voltage...

Do you happen to know the cost of the unit? Although I need 120v not 230v.

Re: Newer technology A/C systems

I agree, certainly in marine systems where power is limited a considerable amount of the time. The after market soft start is only about $175 so it couldn't be half that for them to design it in the...

Re: Newer technology A/C systems

Thanks for the responses. I have 5 units on my boat and was hoping that these newer A/c's would allow me to run all five with less amp draw as I can only now run 3 at the same time while on gen power...

Re: Liveaboard Fees - again

My problem is not with the live aboard fees, it is with the narrative that live aboards are undesirable users of marina facilities, or sub par humans with trashy boats and therefore the fee is...
