Re: Ideal Dimensions of a Proper Sailing Craft

Re: How much could be the fair price of this Albin Vega?

Lots already said in this thread, so I won't add much to the direct topic at hand.

However, an Albin Vega sailed around the Americas and broke a couple world records with Matt Rutherford at...

Re: Sail set ups/rigging - smaller sails vs reefing?

All,

Good stuff in the replies. I think that covers all I was after with my question.

As to digging up old threads/info - that adds a lot of depth, and perhaps a lot more complexity,...

Sail set ups/rigging - smaller sails vs reefing?

In researching boats something that I am figuring is for boats of the same size blue water vs inland the sail set up (including mast, rigging, not just "sails") is smaller for a blue water rig. That...

Re: Cruise capable, smaller boats?

Great post. Thanks for the detail and insight. I will dig through your details as I get time.

Correction - I used arbitrary numbers to make an illustration where the ratios/percentages...

Re: Cruise capable, smaller boats?

Thanks for the thoughts. Most of my research has been online, the vast majority, but not all.

Good point - and yes when I get the opportunity to check some out as I get up to my...

Re: Cruise capable, smaller boats?

Thanks for your well-explained post.

I know there are physics involved in sailboat design. I am admittedly not up to speed on all of the details - enough to keep on learning though. As others...

Re: Cruise capable, smaller boats?

Jim and Don -

Thank you for your comments.

Please see my thread from last year below - trailer launching a sailboat has been considered. There is another link in there (in post #10 of the...

Uh oh. I probably shouldn't have opened that thread...

Post # 19 - "canting" trailer = roll the boat over.

Going back to "beam width" being the number that reflects "width" in...

Re: Cruise capable, smaller boats?

I don't have a specific number at the moment. That is also something I am trying to form. There are a lot of considerations to the "budget" number because condition and amount of work required factor...

Re: Cruise capable, smaller boats?

A. 8-8.5’ beam
To roll down the road on a trailer.

I'd rather have a boat under dimensions that would be questionable for permit territory. Overall width is the easiest one to hit with a...

Re: Trailer launching sailboat

Gotcha now.

Yeah, the boat I was using the dolly with loaded is probably a good 1000-1500 lbs. The boat alone (aluminum) is about 600, motor is 320. Then add gear and fuel tanks. Though that...

Re: Trailer launching sailboat

I think Large is a relative term. If it can be pulled with a conventional large pickup (DOT class III or under, thats a 1 ton dually, class II is a 3/4-1 ton with singles) I wouldn't consider a boat...
