Re: rules for c&d canal?

If the wind goes away and you have no engine, can you call TowBoatUS for a tow?

Re: Needed - Injectors for my Volvo TDM 22

I have found that putting a part number into a search engine along with the word "Volvo" or perhaps "injector" often returns dozens of hits.

You could also call shops that do nothing but rebuild...

Re: Holding tank requirements USA

I would expect the US law to be enforced if the boat was in US waters.

Re: Making thru hull holes smaller...how?

Assuming the flanges of the thu hulls are larger in diameter than the holes, how about cutting some donuts out of a stable material and filling the "slop" with these. This will keep the thru hulls...

Re: Getting rid of house paint on a hull

There's a lady with a pretty crappy (and one engine doesn't run) boat at my marina. She painted it with Rustoleum" boat paint using a roller. Now it looks a little less crappy.

Re: East Coast Florida Summer Storage

There are several marinas specializing in out of the water storage along the Okeechobee Waterway including Indiantown Marina. Check Active Captain for the others.

Re: rules for c&d canal?

And that's because the authorities never considered that anyone would be foolish enough to try and row a boat through the canal.

The issue here is not so much that he's endangering himself, he is...

Re: Help with cross referencing fuel filter

Any good auto parts store will be able to cross reference filters. I use WIX filters. They seem to have good reviews and are available locally.

Re: Selectable Washdown Setup (Fresh/Raw water)

The most important consideration is preventing contamination of the fresh water supply with salt water. In theory, a check valve would do this but I would be looking for something a little more...

Re: Circuit breaker for a Lofrans Falkon

It could be either way. In my case, there is a 7 amp fuse for the wire feeding the solenoid coil and a 60 amp (or so) circuit breaker for the actual power to the windlass (which flows through the...

Yea, he didn't state that. If he had, he might have gotten different answers.

Re: AIS Transponder for security

That will tell you if your boat is drifting away or if someone is stealing it. Other than that it's not much of a security system. It won't let you know it someone is stealing things off it or if...

Re: Circuit breaker for a Lofrans Falkon

The cable size is the key here. Look at the cable, get the size and then use the tables on the internet or the West Marine catalog to determine the maximum current for that sized wire. Choose the...

Re: Are we the last boat going south?

Looking at MarineTraffic: Global Ship Tracking Intelligence | AIS Marine Traffic (https://www.marinetraffic.com), there are many, many boats heading south.

As for facilities, look on Active...

Re: How to protect glassware from getting broken?

In my area, it's difficult to find soda in glass bottles, only plastic.

The real answer of course, is to remember that you're on a boat and equip it as such. Plastic glasses, plastic plates,...

Re: Holding tank requirements USA

It would take an extreme dumbass to pee or poop into the water with people watching, especially LEOs.

I can't imagine how they would know.

We use the marina heads when practical but not in the middle of the night.

Re: Holding tank requirements USA

The USCG will not be enforcing state laws, only Federal.

I have been boarded twice by the USCG (in MD). They did not check the holding tank, valves, heads, etc. They checked for documentation,...

Re: AIS on the ICW

The real problem is the smaller boats, especially near cities. These are the people who don't know the rules and don't know or care about wakes. And of course, the rental PWCs.

These boats have...

Re: mystery - electrical connector

Terminal blocks that size are available but not easy to find. There's nothing wrong with this installation and no point in spending time and money to change it.

Several years ago I had to replace...

Re: mystery - electrical connector

But then there will be only one mounting screw in each half. If you really feel the need to make it so a fuse won't fit, glue a block of plastic in the middle.

Anyone dumb enough to put a fuse in...

Re: Holding tank requirements USA

Is the USA the only major country with such strict boat sewage regulations?

I find it odd that boats in the UK aren't equipped with holding tanks or sewage treatment systems. A livaboards marina...
