Re: Prout and similar cats

If you are lucky you might get an Elite for that money. Not as good sailing as the standard Prout 37, but certainly a little more roomy.

Iridium Go - Mexico

I've got an Iridium Go for sale.

Bare unit only with two unused Predict Wind SIM cards ready to be activated.

The rubber casing of the unit has some scuff or other marks but everything works...

Re: My boat is merrily drifting west in the Caribbean sea

The drogue was from the cleats on the bow. I did get the main out do see if would help position it bow into the wind. Pretty much zero difference, which was not what I expected given how much the...

Re: My boat is merrily drifting west in the Caribbean sea

Yes my thoughts exactly. I never wanted to make the journey to begin with, so subconsciously it wasn't starting on a good note. I was buoyed by the recent crossing of a lagoon and a Seawind. Though...

Re: My boat is merrily drifting west in the Caribbean sea

It can DDW or close, no problem. Slowly though. Don't forget the Genoa is between 27-36m2 (depending on the cut) and the main is less than 14m2 set as far aft as possible.

Honduras and Nicaragua...

Re: My boat is merrily drifting west in the Caribbean sea

Yep.

Aww, just baby 7' seas. Haha. They were 12' when the coast guard was questioning if it's wise to try and continue. could the difference between signification wave height (33% of waves) and...

Re: My boat is merrily drifting west in the Caribbean sea

Steering on these is always a bit of a topic. The original 3 steering boxes are either broken now or been replaced on most models. None of the 35' models are less than 40 years old now.

Mine had...

Re: My boat is merrily drifting west in the Caribbean sea

Yes, other people seem more concerned than me. I'm usually like that with material things. It is what it is.

I think a mod would have to remove the image. I can't edit the post anymore.

Being...

Re: My boat is merrily drifting west in the Caribbean sea

I turned everything off apart from the AIS, and the navigation lights. didn't want to be a hazard to navigation, or at least limit it.

Unless the solar is torn off the AIS should transmit...

Re: My boat is merrily drifting west in the Caribbean sea

Yeah it was not problem, and easier to jump in the water and swim with a lifejacket, than I thought it would be.

Another skipper might has stayed onboard the boat, perhaps waited the weather out...

My boat is merrily drifting west in the Caribbean sea

Because I know that Cruisers Forum loves a good disaster story, I thought I'd better get ahead of the game ;)

Re: BVI Announces reopening protocols for Dec 1

Hmm. Doesn't the US and by extension the USVI and Puerto Rico only 'welcome' US citizens, and foreign nationals that already hold the relevant visa?

The ESTA is suspended, and any boats visiting...

Re: Jimmy Cornell goes Electric, with a Cat

They didn't have any regen, and don't really have much solar either.

It's only when they got their new sail drive did they get regen IIRC.

They did a test of it from Netherlands to Norway.

Re: Jimmy Cornell goes Electric, with a Cat

I don't understand that. They were sailing, stopped using the fridges and electric cooker yet still didn't have enough power. Strange, considering just about every cruiser in the world manages to...

Re: Mini-washer Daewoo

Mine is mounted to blocks of wood epoxied onto the hull, then screwed through into a large piece of ply. It's also sitting on a shelf. You know when it's spinning but it's not excessively vibrating....

Re: One thing I keep noticing about youtube videos...

More like they are about cruising. Sailing in a cruising fashion isn't really an exciting or strenuous activity. Just look at the average age of cruisers. It's significantly older than say people...

Re: Need advice - Flat bilge problems (pumping out issues)

I'm with you. Bilges IMO should be completely dry barring possibly a bit of condensation. There are cheap methods to get every last bit (almost) of water up. One involves a sponge with a hole cut out...

Re: Night Watch Deadman's Switch?

The alternative is to have a large enough crew they you don't need to 'keep them awake'

It all depends on the boat, but something like a Lagoon 450 could very comfortably handle 4-6 crew members....

Is this to be on a cruising boat? most have more than minimum in terms of electronics. If it's just general sailing then you probably have the wrong forums. ;)

If dead set on an ipad over...

Re: Hairline crack?

This will most likely be due to the flexing of the deck and cracking/breaking the gel coat. Seldom are cracks like this ever a problem but you would want to investigate. You will see these stress...

I like the site. So much more detailed than normal broker listings.

There is nothing Rick can do to stop someone listing their boat elsewhere without his knowledge.

In fact my boat was listed...

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

I used OneSails for my main. Vantage 1 filmless laminate (pic attahced). I've been getting quotes now for the...

People in the UK often think USA is cheap and that we get a raw deal in Europe, but many things are actually cheaper in Europe. Rigging is one example, sails/sailmaking is another ($2000 more for my...

Re: Look to spend $150,000 on a catamaran

The OP doesn't say how long he wants to cruise for.

It could be he could buy the boat, and cruise for a few years without doing anything other than basic maintenance.

ST60 electronics whilst...
