Re: Tohatsu 6.0 KW, XL shaft, tilt & trim

Yeah that's what made me learn about it. But while it has juicy (to me) details like the built-in tilt&trim and the XL, it also doesn't provide the details I'd like to know. I'm currently using two...

Tohatsu 6.0 KW, XL shaft, tilt & trim

Tohatsu is touting a collaboration with Iltor to release a 6KW outboard in NA and Europe this year. Apparently they'll offer XL shafts (which ePropulsion doesn't) and tilt & trim (again lacking with...

Re: electric Seawind 1000 XL2

I was working on it while also upgrading my solar, but finished the solar upgrade first and it's generating so much extra power that I lost motivation to finish the regen part.

Re: Induction Cooking info and experience.

Going to 24V on a small boat with just 300W of solar doesn't make sense. The 12V inverter cabling is going to be just two thick cables and that's the end of it. Not worth putting an entire new...

Re: Induction Cooking info and experience.

I also prefer boiling water in our induction. We have a very nice electric kettle but the efficiency difference doesn't make up for the extra space.

Re: Induction Cooking info and experience.

You're not going to use 1kWh if you just do light cooking with induction, to be sure. You'll use far less than that.

Re: Induction Cooking info and experience.

Using my induction cooktop, I can make coffee and some oatmeal for 2 using 1800W over 3min, or 90 Wh. That's peanuts and the solar used to refill it in 30min (but now in 2min with our extra solar!)....

Marine Mortgage/Loans rates and terms

I was peeking at Essex Credit as my goto reference for rate to be obtained on long term, high value boats (>500k$). Until the recent spike in interest rates, they seemed to have prices in line-ish...

Re: electric Seawind 1000 XL2

I'll address multiple posts at once.

Jimmy Cornell: I'm not in his camp of trying to do it with just regen. I think he didn't put enough solar at all, and should have had at least a small...

Re: electric Seawind 1000 XL2

Torqeedo allows charging third party batteries and I hear that ePropulsion too from the flip of a boolean flag, if using the right messages. In any case my BMS talks over CAN and shares allowed...

Re: electric Seawind 1000 XL2

For tilt and trim, I used two CMC PT-35 Tilt and Trim.

Regen is still a work in progress. ePropulsion only enables it on their proprietary batteries, but you can get the binary format if you sign...

Re: Sizing Twin Electric Pod Drive Motors for a 33ft Cat

I don't have a backup generator yet. I want to finish installing the 2200W of solar I started putting up, and then test whether I actually need a genset. If I do I'll use a portable Honda one.

I'm...

- Battery, BMS,
- Cerbo GX
- Cabling, bus bars, breakers
- Controller, display, drive units

electric Seawind 1000 XL2

Hey there. This is sort of a report on my experience so far with a DIY conversion to electric.

2012 Seawind 1000 XL2
Original: 2x Yamaha 9.9HP
Repower: 2x ePropulsion Evo Pod 6.0
Battery:...

Re: Sizing Twin Electric Pod Drive Motors for a 33ft Cat

I have a Seawind 1000 XL2, about 35.5ft. I installed two ePropulsion Pod 6.0 (6KW each). In fair condition, I use maybe 3kW to get moving at 3-4kts. I need only about 4-5kW total when the sea is a...

Re: ePropulsion Pod Evo 3.0 or 6.0

I installed two ePropulsion Pod 6.0 on custom made legs, serving as extra long outboards.

So far so good. Plenty of power! Way more than I need most of the time on my 36ft catamaran.

Furler for lightwind sails

While waiting for our bigger boat build, I'm sailing a Seawind 1000 XL2 and am on an adventure to try out all sort of sails. Currently the boat is equipped with a screecher on a Facnor furler.

Re: Broker refuses to put sea trial as purchase condition

Respectfully, this is a bit insane? Why would you make a multi-hundred thousand dollars purchase sight unseen, after the previous owner (or its agent) delivered it to the Caribbeans from France, with...

Re: 48V to 12/48V charging?

I know Sailing Uma (youtubers) did this conversion of 12-to-48V windlass stuff but they also had issues with corrosion and walked back from this once they could find a proper 48V model.

Re: 48V to 12/48V charging?

I doubt the MPPT alone could power your windlass even if its rated output matched the windlasses rated input. The windlass will see loads many times higher than its rated input during operation. A...

Re: Propulsion & house LFP bank

Per the lithium cells spec sheets (all chemistries) charging should stop not when a voltage is reached but when the current drops to a specific value (e.g 100mA), after the voltage was reached. That...

Re: 48V to 12/48V charging?

My understanding is that the MPPT (Victron included) can/keep themselves the right to short the inputs under certain conditions, which is fine for solar panels (disables them) but obviously not for a...

Re: 48V to 12/48V charging?

They don't have the chargers in that range, just the converters.
