Re: Favorite cruising related sayings
Relieved certainly, and forever sad, though it gets better with time. |

Re: Seizing Wire as Hose Clamp / Clamptite
Farmers rarely use coat hangers, even for hanging coats. They use bailing wire for quick in-the-field repairs and for anything a hose clamp would work for. Today most modern bailers use twine which... |

Re: Left hanging by Pantaenius
Let me complicate it a bit. Wife and I both have US passports, but both are dual citizens -- she also has an Australian passport and I have a Canadian. We own property in all 3 countries, and have... |

Re: Left hanging by Pantaenius
Country of Residence is usually defined as the country in which one spends 183 or more days per year. We spend 5 months in Canada, 3 months in the USA, and 4 months in Australia. We pay property... |

Re: Securing deck hardware when you can't get to the backing
Since the back is completely hidden, what about toggle bolts in this application , or even closed pop rivets? |

Re: Big waves! Bad storm.
Depends which Great Lake. Iron ore freighters have broken up and sunk on Superior — NOT 20’ waves. Parts of the lakes get pretty shallow and waves break. At one time commercial vessels could not... |

Re: Epoxy takes days to cure when very cold
That’s true for most (but not all) chemical reactions. Factor of 2 per 10F (C?) temperature change. |

Re: Why is it so hard to find a decent TV??
Gave up on a TV years and years ago. They don’t like a marine environment and need frequent replacement. Nothing to watch anyway. And for weather etc what’s wrong with my cell? |

Re: Water cooled solar panels.
Power needed only to overcome friction loss through the tubing. Upflow assisted by syphon on downflow assuming tubes run full. So minimal power needs. |

Re: A circular bar room argument... how do fixed bowsprits make sense?
Anchors on sailboats are usually deployed at the foot of the bowsprit, should the boat have one. On a large boat (actually a ship) anchors are deployed from a cathead. Regarding heavy boats and... |

Re: Buying boat based on survey value?
Yet financial institutions and insurers generally require a valuation by a marine surveyor. The value entered is usually what the owner tells him to write in as long as it’s not absurdly over the... |

Re: How do I get a stainless pin out of an aluminum masthead?
I'll second the Lanocote as a preventative. Haven't tried moving the pin in the tabernacle after 10 years, but have been coating other fittings with Lanocote and never have trouble moving them. Ten... |

Re: Drill Hole in Stainless Steel Pipe
Either a gusset between the vertical and horizontal, or a collar around the hole. Either should work well if, indeed, any reinforcing at all is needed. BTW, 16 ga is not pipe; it's tube with about... |
