More details that might be helpful: the original bolts are threaded into one side of the bronze cast gudgeon halves. Mine worked loose after a few years so when I replaced them I did so with bolts...

I also am the owner of a freya 39 built in 1977. In fact the original owner. I have removed he ruudder several times and recommend it to anyone that has a boat of this vintage if only to inspect...
