Re: The Tricolor/Kariba/Clary Collision of 2002 -- Clusterfumble in the North Sea

I take the point about VHF becoming "too much" if everyone's yakking and bridge is shorthanded, or just overtaxed.

Re: The Tricolor/Kariba/Clary Collision of 2002 -- Clusterfumble in the North Sea

Re: Docking ideas for twin rudder single prop...

The approach in reverse idea is tempting, she almost steers better making sternway. Then I could put a stern spring out, power forward, and lever the bow in.

I'm just not sure I have the guts to...

Docking ideas for twin rudder single prop...

38-footer I'm getting used to, beamy stern, twin rudders, single right-hand prop, with very little prop-walk effect.

Berth is port-side to, on a regular dock face, largish powerboat moored astern,...

Re: Anyone Been Out to the Flower Garden Banks ?

East and West Flower are farther offshore, and have more hard coral. Some of the moorings are closer to the edge of the coral fields, where you can get deeper. But the best coral is more in the...

Renewed a year ago, Mine was submitted on Dec 16, ready for MEB review (including waiver request) on Dec 29, and approved by MEB Jan 12th. This is probably an example of "quick" review. I'd think...

You going around Florida, or through it on the canal? And be careful to wait for a stretch of good weather between Tampa and St. Mark's, since you don't have any ICW in between and have to go...

If you already have the hardware? (halyard, pole, topping lift, turning blocks for sheets) then I'd say get a symmetrical spin if you're not sailing shorthanded and you are in light-wind areas.

I...

Cheoy Lee made this as a knock-off of the Folkboat design, which is very well thought-of as a good-looking, good handling, tough little boat which can take a lot of weather and is fun to sail:

The...

I take your meaning for racing and racing boats, but for cruising many of us are slower, and more interested in being able to follow a rhumb line without having to jibe a lot (and have varied course...

Nigel, I'm curious as to how you gybed, if you did. I would think the sail would look goofy with the clew serving as the "tack" on the pole cocked upward, though it would work (?)

I too had to...
