Re: Zspar 480 boom, how to get sheave pin out

The boom vang kept the boom in place. Otherwise yes, I would have dropped it on the bimini. I only loosed the outhaul a few inches, enough to pull the 'cassette' out.
I have an inmast furler, so I...

Re: Zspar 480 boom, how to get sheave pin out

I just replaced mine last weekend. If you loosen the topping lift, the 'cassette' of aluminum that holds the sheave slides out from the rest of the structure. After that, it's easy to remove the...

Re: Bottom Imaging for Sailboats

Hi there,
I must admit I dropped that project in favor of other more necessary ones. I stopped actively fishing while sailing (just trolling sometimes), and I only have the fishfinder in the dinghy....

Re: Who is using an electric blanket?

Totally agree. I bought a heated matt pad for our forward cabin. We turned it on 20 min before going to bed, and this allowed us to turn the heat off overnight.
Got a couple of heated pads and...

Re: Tacking in light winds?

Nothing new to add to this conversation, but I always learn more visualizing the discussion. Here is a video of the 'gears of sailing upwind' to complement Catsketcher's great explanation.

Re: Growing lettuce and other vegetables aboard

This is great!
I've been playing with hydroponics at home, with the utopic idea of moving it into the boat. What I like the most is how clean the system is. I used a PVC gutter to do the NFT system,...

Re: Seacock and through hull plastic/ steal / other

Here is an idea. Perhaps if you want people to follow your professional opinions, you should talk, or explain, with professional terminology. I have no doubt of your qualifications, and I wouldn't...

Re: Nova Scotia to the Azores

Hi there,
I'm planning a similar trip next year (From Boston to Spain via the Azores). Sept/October is perhaps not a great time to be in that area since it is still hurricane season. I'm planning on...

Re: Electrical DC main panel

I found this fuel selector valve made for cat bass boats. I like the aluminum housing. The valve itself is a plain selector valve, but it comes only in 1/4’’ fittings. I bought bigger valves (5/16”...

Re: Favorite Random Orbit Sander

I have a festool and it was the best investment I’ve made when it comes to tools. Great dust collection and light too.

Re: Electrical DC main panel

Great design Jedi!

Where are you planning on manufacturing the panel? Will it be metal or acrylic with engraving/backlight?

I designed a panel for my fuel management system using front panel...

Re: Live aboard boat / Dog

Yes, I guess if my wife had to do it she could arrange it that way, but for me, it was way easier to carry him.

Re: Live aboard boat / Dog

Hi,
Liveaboard here with a 70# Golden Retriever on a 47' monohull. It gets a little crowded. In 'normal' conditions it is doable, but dogs get sick (don't ask how I know) and things get tricky.

Re: Liveaboards in Boston

Hi there,

We've been living aboard in Boston for 4 years, full time, and it's been a great experience. So great, that we are refitting the boat over the winter so that we can take it to warmer...

Re: Guitar players and musicians on board?

Hi!
That's a topic I like! In the winter, I shift to music and woodworking projects. We carry a Telecaster and an acoustic Art&luthier in the boat. But the beauty that's coming to the boat is this...

Re: New Victron Multiplus install with Li Batteries

How is the upgrade going?
I installed my multiplus last weekend and it was more straight forward than I thought.
Looking at your diagram I see that when in shore power, your starter battery gets...

Re: New Victron Multiplus install with Li Batteries

Yes, I've seen that table, but I think that for the AC-1 you can only supply 63A if the input current to the multiplus is 50A (so this would apply if you have a shore plug of 50A). In our case, since...

Re: New Victron Multiplus install with Li Batteries

Perfect.
Since the shore power to the Inverter is 30amp in our case, and the power assist feature of the multiplus is up to 13amp, the AC1 out of the multiplus should be protected with ~43amp ELCI...

Re: Bottom Imaging for Sailboats

This is a little summary of the types of fish finder transducers and how they can be used to ‘read the bottom’.
The ‘traditional sonar’ uses a typical transducer that transmits a single frequency in...
