Portuguese or Spanish sailing forums?

Hi, as we will sail south this summer if there are no major mishaps, I am looking for the most popular sailing forums in Spain and Portugal to gain some info.

Maybe also the forums of folks going fishing along their coasts could be helpful.

In France the most popular seems to be https://www.hisse-et-oh.com/
which was a tremendous source of information for all sorts of things while we were there.

I live in Portugal and to date I don't know of any Portuguese sailing forums.. nor Spanish come to that.
Likely why we have Spanish and Portuguese members on CF..
As for fishing.. don't eat the stuff so never looked.
Searches just throw up the English speaking forums like Sailnet, Sailing Anarchy etc.

Thanks Boatie, guess I will get in touch with you then if I need some specific info :-)

Seems our neighbors down south are a lot less into sailing than the French?

Re: Portuguese or Spanish sailing forums?

You might try various Facebook groups, they seem to be a better chance. However I have the impression, the Spanish seem to be less into communication about their hobbies.

Re: Portuguese or Spanish sailing forums?

I don't know of groups there, but years back when I sailed in that region I used the "South Biscay Pilot - The Gironde Estuary to La Corun~a" by Robin Brandon. I've no idea if they've updated that pilot, my 3rd edition is from 1984. One of the things I quite liked about that pilot was that is showed photographs from the ocean of what you actually saw as you approached different ports. Good luck!

Sailing is virtually a national sport for the French

I know this very much, spent several years living there.

Surprised that it seems not at all the case in Portugal and Spain. No idea why that is the case though.

Re: Portuguese or Spanish sailing forums?

Hi there,

La taberna del puerto is a Spanish forum that has been running for many many years. Very similar to cruisersforum.

https://foro.latabernadelpuerto.com/index.php

Good luck!

Re: Portuguese or Spanish sailing forums?

I have had very little success finding Forums in Portugal. Some of this is my limited Portuguese, but there is also a very different internet usage and presence in Portugal.

A straightforward search for "BBQ Forum" or "fórum de churrasco" nets you none. Many businesses do not maintain a website because their is a cost and they instead opt only for the "free" Facebook.

Other than ads for fishing trips, there is not a ton but it is better than sailing. But not much.

Like many things in Portugal, progress is made by who you know. I found vastly more local information in Viana do Castelo from a shop, Loja do Jaime...who is only on facebook (something I refuse to use). If you walk in the shop they are thrilled to share information.

Honestly, even getting businesses to RESPOND to emails can be a major issue. This is a constant struggle. I am trying to buy a nearby moorage in Spain and you would think I am trying to murder their mother. They WILL NOT respond, make excuses when I call, then continue to not respond.

You would think the 6000-15,000 euros would be a motivator, but no.

Lagos Navigators is a well established Facebook Group based at the south-west of Portugal.
