Re: Cost of RO water

I'm a liveaboard and have not taken on dock water for close to 6 years, so I'm pretty experienced using, and maintaining, my watermaker.

Consider this. Marinas in non US countries may not offer...

Re: WHERE can I use a watermaker?

I am a liveaboard who has not taken on dock water for over 5 years.

I get between two anbd three years out of a set of membranes running the watermaker every day.

You can run your watermaker...

Re: Cruisers Freight Forwarder

Thanks for the reference to Island Bargains.

That is pretty much what I was thinking about doing, just more world wide, but the same idea.

Something to explore!

Cruisers Freight Forwarder

I thought of something tonight, and wanted to put it out to the community...

I am a businessman, and a part time liveaboard myself. I also have a really great warehouse in Texas with a great team...

Re: Heating our sailboat this winter in VA - HELP!

I stay aboard much of the time in Seward Alaska in the winter. My temperatures generally get down into the 20’s with highs in the 30’s and 40’s.

I use a Wallas diesel forced air heater for heat....

Re: Buy a boat that is ready to sail or Renovate one

Far and away the best “value” in any boat is a boat that might have a higher initial price tag, but has been lovingly cared for, and continuously upgraded by an active owner.

There are no...

Re: How long do you trust your water?

I live aboard and make water every day or so. I have a spigot from the water maker that goes into my galley sink.

From that I fill up a couple BPA free gallon jugs that I keep in the fridge.

Re: Good place to retube a rib

I have a 11’ Zodiak YL340 RIB as a tender.

I re-tubed it, and the tubes cost $3600 USD.

The re-tubing took me about an hour, with help from a friend.

A new Zodiak YL340 is something north of...

Re: Percentages of male solo active cruisers???

No dogs, and I’m not a lonely soul looking for a cruising mate.

That said I prefer a harbor and harbor town to explore more at this stage than the solitude of a anchorage.

Re: Percentages of male solo active cruisers???

Wow!, a lot of good stuff here.

I’m just a guy that midlife fell in love with the idea of exploring by boat. Kids are long gone, and career is ending. It’s frigging cold in Alaska, and there is a...

Re: Percentages of male solo active cruisers???

I think unlike many “cruisers” I do not have a sailboat, nor do I envision myself cruising the world.

I own a aprox 50’ Pilothouse “trawler” or trawler style boat, and intend to cruise the pacific...

Re: Percentages of male solo active cruisers???

I can see that.

A large percentage of males choose liveaboard life as a transition from a shared home. They already own the boat, and it’s nicer and easier than renting an apartment.

This male...

At our harbor in Seward Alaska there are only a few liveaboards. a couple of...

Re: YouTube Sailors - Overly Romanticized Or Just Lacking Details?

Re: Resting 12v Battery Voltage Reading Is 13.2v; What Am I Missing?

As others have posted forget about resting voltage. It has little meaning as a determination of battery health.

Second, and as others have posted run your batteries up to full charge.

IF... If...

My watermaker output is routed to a tee in the suction side of the potable water pump. As others have indicated that allows me to fill whichever tank is online at the time.

The “sample” output...
