Re: Aging out
We too are in that stage of life (78 and 75 and with a significant life altering ailment). We have a beautiful and well maintained Brewer 44 ketch and want her to go to a new owner who will love and... |

Re: Sound Insulation
Thank you to all who replied. To be clear, what crumbled was NOT the Navy Board I am looking for, but the foam type insulation installed by the prior owner. I will look into the several helpful... |

Sound Insulation
The prior owner installed a white plastic/vinyl backed foam insulation in the engine room. The foam has disintegrated (from heat, vibration, and time). I saw a boat with something called “navy board”... |

Re: Boarding a RIB from the water
We have an “up and over” ladder that collapses into a package about 14” long by 12” wide. Extended, it provides 4 steps, of which the bottom one or two are sufficient. Webbing steps, or even a loop... |

Re: Is diesel oil always black instantly?
The oil in our Westerbeke 5BCD genset turns black on first running (we used RotellaT). That has about 1300 hours on it. Our Perkins 4.236, with about 3000 hours, runs clean for about 75 hours... |

Re: Whitby 42: Bringing her back from the grave?
We have a Brewer 44, successor to the Whitby. We love the boat -- solid, comfortable, and secure. As for the "project" you have in mind, I would count on the engine being pickled given the... |

Re: Prop Shaft Line Cutters: Yes or No?
We have a Prop Protector (Spurs would not fit, but were our first choice). On one occasion, we hooked three (yes, three) crab pots while under sail. It was blowing like stink and the Admiral would... |

Re: surveyor recommendation (Bradenton FL area)
Gene Snipes in the Ft. Myers area is very good, if he still is in the business. He did ours in 2008 and was very thorough. The insurance company accepted his report readily. |

Re: Chartering in St. Martin with a one and 4 year old.
Cruising with kids can be a challenge, but so can adults. It also can be a blast and a life changing experience. You must read the Windtraveler blogs. Brit and Scott are in the BVIs living on... |

Re: Coast Guard rescues Man After 6 Days Stranded on Island on Cay Sal Bank
It struck me as odd too, especially when I viewed the video and he exited from a tent. Not many cruisers I know carry a tent in their dinghies, but maybe he has a very sophisticated and complete... |

Re: Naples, FL to Marathon, FL - Advise Wanted
You should have no problem making that passage with 5'5" of draft. We have 5'2" and have done it many times, and never seen anything of threat to our keel. Of course, as you approach Marathon (and... |

Re: Adding a swim platform - How To?
I built one for our Brewer 44,which has a modified sugar scoop, so not your precise situation. You can read the "how to" at the Whitby-Brewer Website. I could not post pictures of it in process or... |
