surveyor recommendation (Bradenton FL area)
Can anyone recommend a surveyor in the Bradenton, FL area? We've been looking around and searching and are putting in a bid on a used Catalina.
Anyone had any experience they want to share regarding a surveyor in the area?
Thanks, David -Tampa, FL

Re: surveyor recommendation (Bradenton FL area)
Thank you HyLyte for the recommendation. I'll definitly put him on the list to interview.
Anyone have specific questions you suggest asking prospective surveyors?
Have you surveyed this model of boat?
How many?
Any particular areas with this model we will be paying close attention to?
How long have you been a surveyor?
Do you go up the mast?
What can I expect to receive in my survey?
Other questions?
Thanks all, David

Re: surveyor recommendation (Bradenton FL area)
I used Rick Shelley. He spent the entire day checking every inch of the island packet I just saw. He is so thorough, I was told the buyers love him and the seller and brokers are terrified of him. Surely that was just joking. RD Shelley Marine Surveyor He was very helpful and made the whole purchasing experience much more comfortable for me and was available for any questions I had after the survey as well.

Gene Snipes in the Ft. Myers area is very good, if he still is in the business. He did ours in 2008 and was very thorough. The insurance company accepted his report readily.

I used Rick Shelley twice on different occasions and he is very professional. I would use him again. You already have his email. Call him and speak to him. You will be impressed.

Re: surveyor recommendation (Bradenton FL area)
I can definitly recommend Rick. He was thorough and accurate (as any surveyor should be). But he also spent time being sure we understood the various systems and features. Also, he pointed out minor items that weren't problems, but minor future maintenance along with how to best keep them minimized going forward.
I was very pleased....

Re: surveyor recommendation (Bradenton FL area)
Positive feedback on Rick Shelley... Rick and his apprentice spent about 8 hours surveying the boat I have since bought. He was very thorough and took time to explain what he was doing and his recommendations. The only disappointment is that he will not go up the mast. So far (~1000nm), haven't discovered any issue that I would have expected to be found by a surveyor.
