Re: Perkins M90 Anodes?

Our M135 don't have them (at least according to the manual I have!), so guessing the M90 don't either.

Re: Fuses and circuit breakers for LiFePO4

What Cerbo setting do you use? I have the BMS connected and it's the controller, but I like your idea for remote use.

Re: How much electric power is needed to power a 40 - 45' cat at 5 knots?

Hmm, with no shading (motor boat, not masted) 65sqm of area should give (1000W/sqm @ 20% efficiency) about 13kW at about a daily 4x multiplier = 52kW/day.
5kn for a relatively efficiently hulled...

Re: Looking for brand recommendations for long range cruising motor yachts

I'll change your ending: there is nothing romantic thrashing through waves and swell at 20kn using 150lph and throwing $100 into fuel tank every 17minutes and either being on the fly where it's wet...

Re: Wireless Switching

So if the Shelley's give up the ghost, and they are inline, then manual breaker isn't going to work since the power is still trying (and failing presumably) to go through the (burnt out, failed,...)...

Re: How are people charging Li/LA hybrid setups?

Since our house is 48V, there's few 48-12 DCDC that are chargers (as distinct to converters). So we'll be using a 100/20 or 100/30 MPPT from Victron to charge the 12v from the 48v.

Re: Only one design of battery onboard and it’s Lifepo4

Thank you. Our lifepo4 will be 48v, so direct connect to engine, bypassing BMS, isn't possible since our starter is 12v (or can be 24v). But it is interesting to hear you're bypassing the BMS to deal...

Re: Only one design of battery onboard and it’s Lifepo4

I'm interested in your engine start - we have twin 135hp 6c NA Perkins. The manual specs 2 x parallel 12v 600cca (or near) for starting. Actually it's not 600CCA: "each battery must be at least...

Re: DC Generator - The Smart Way to Go

Yep, A$30k for a 12kW locally made one (good quality, milspec). Which is around US$20k. Not installed, not shipped. :frown:

Re: Bilge pumps with digital switching

Thanks Matt, good to know. Excellent idea for the triplex.

I also realised there's another option - run a small wire to the water detector and back to the digital switch unit, but in mPower this...

Re: Binoculars

Maven C1. There are many excellent (better) smaller brands now, not just the usual old ones. Glass machining and coatings have come quite a way in 10-20 years, so I'd recommend looking wider at least...

Re: Who should be in control?

I'd be happy with the BMS is the central "controller" - but only if it communicates to others (Cerbo, chargers, mppt etc.).
Also, the BMS OVP for cell and pack have to work well: there's some nice...

Re: Why do we still use cigarette-lighter adapters?

Hmm, so 24V with the BlueSea may be ok, and that would give extra oomph using the USB power protocols. I'd have to run a little 12-24V boost converter behind though - have you checked any of them? ...

Re: Monitor Shore Power

If you networked a Pi or Nuc to a Cerbo GX attached to an (inverter-)charger, you should be able to program a notification of your choice (SMS, email, flare  ).

Re: Electric Foreigner - a catamaranEP converson project

Glad a decision is made. What genset are you thinking of?
If DC (which I would strongly suggest), there's only a few options out there unfortunately.

Re: Newbie question: what's the average cost per NM for a power cat 47' ?

The previous Aquilla's that I looked up aren't designed particularly for efficiency compared to some other more one-off designs. For example most from Malcolm Tennant's design hand would potentially...

Re: Electric Foreigner - a catamaranEP converson project

I'd love to add a pair of pods on our powercat, with the option of large sized, slow moving props for upto-hull-speed. Say 600mm++ diameter for us. Have you seen anything like that?

Re: Newbie question: what's the average cost per NM for a power cat 47' ?

There was one I read about (sorry, can't find it) that had a single wide foil attached at each hull under the mid-aft bridgedeck. The article wasn't owner written, so I didn't take much notice of the...

Re: Newbie question: what's the average cost per NM for a power cat 47' ?

I did some analysis on fuel efficiency for largish cruising powercats that may help - bluenomads.blog (https://bluenomads.blog/tag/fuel-economy/). I must bring it uptodate (which I've said many times...
