Biography

I have always been passionate about the sea, ever since my father first took me deep sea fishing when I was 8 years old. From deep sea fishing, SA Navy and yachting sea time, including 3 Atlantic crossings, I have over 67 700 nautical miles. I am a qualified Yachtmaster Offshore Skipper (CE). I love navigating and exploring different places.
My love of the outdoors, exploring and people led me to start ’Life out There’, a tour operating business specialising in land, sea and air adventures. Apart from learning the intricacies involved in running a charter business, I learned how to understand and prioritise guests needs and share my knowledge and passion for exploring beautiful places. I relate well to people and enjoy helping and teaching them.
My success over a 30-year career in corporate account management as an international sales professional was because of my good relationship management skills. I was well known for being able to effortlessly start up and maintain good relationships with people of all levels. My corporate experience, running my own business, my ability to captain almost every sports team I have represented, together with my sailing experience, have taught me the value of client satisfaction and the importance in harnessing a crew’s team-working abilities while also ensuring their overall happiness.
I am a great team player and a good leader, and can remain calm and logical, making good decisions under pressure when in emergency or stressful situations. I look forward to some more ocean crossings and charter work to add to my experience, while living the passion for the ocean, nature and people.
