    John,
Our boats are probably sister ships in every way. I remove the generator and place it on the swim step while running it (lash it in place with a rubber mat under it to reduce vibration). So far it has worked great. I secure a spare gas tank to the swim grid while underway and move it when running the genny. I agree, a third reef for winds over 30K would be very helpful. Been out in 35K but nothing higher so far, and not planning to be either. As a precaution, I carry a spare set of glow plugs, because they are not a problem according to Volvo .
Maybe we can talk more after Aug. 2 when I return.

    Hi John,
Welcome to the group of Bavaria owners!
My engine now seems to be working well, but we leave on a 350 plus km cruise this Friday so we shall see.

Honda generator. I love it, and use it to run our Zantrec 40 amp shore charger (120 V). I can heat my hot water at the same time I am charging at peak capacity. I am looking into upgrading to a larger shore charger, something in the 90 amp range as my friend uses a Honda 2000i to power his 100 amp charger. I store the generator in the port lazerette as it is "sealed off" from the rest of the boat. If you close off the gas tank air vent, the generator is basically air tight. I check regularly for any smell of gas in the locker and have never found any.
Another place I have seen the generator stored, is under the removeable seat at the stern walkway, but this means you lose the easy walkthrough. I bought our boat new and took delivery in Nov. 2004. It is the 2 cabin version.
