- Hey folks, I'm Ben and I have been sailing for five years. I'm dedicated, have all my ASA certifications (for what that's worth!) and it seems that sailing agrees with me, whether heading out for a daysail or a longer trip offshore. I did the airplane flying thing for many years but never thought of learning to sail back in the day, which is strange since I live in Los Angeles right near all the marina and boats. Go figure, huh? I worked in the Entertainment industry most of my career (I created the screenwriting software everyone uses) and these days I work some, play some, so I have some time to hit the water in search of both experience and adventure.
For the moment, I'm looking for fairly shortish trips, perhaps a couple weeks at most, and obviously I have to keep it all within the US or somewhere where Americans are allowed, sad as that is to have to say. I am fully vaccinated, so there is that I guess.
Regardless, I am quite a competent sailor that I have gotten out of charter sails in the Los Angeles area. I also have other critical sailing skills down pat, though, such as mixing up a dry rub for a steak dinner or knowing where the cold beer is once we're docked! Dare I say Rum drinks?
Note that just before the pandemic (Feb-March 2020) crewed a passage from the Bahamas to the US Virgin Islands (700NM - 4 days) on a 58 foot catamaran, then crewed locally for a week on a 50 foot Cat around St. Thomas, so I have gotten my first real ocean passage out of the way with experienced Captains.
If I might be a fit, shoot me a message and we can chat about sailing plans and crewing needs and all that. As I said earlier, my schedule is flexible, even for those who might need crew on fairly short notice.
