Did you ever make it to Port Townsend? My boat is stern to stern with a dark blue schooner "NYLLA", I have sanded the bottom down to the bare hull and I am about to start putting glass and barrier coat back on.

Hey there, First Mate! Sorry...I never noticed the little message notification alerting me to your note. Congratulations on buying the boat. I've always loved the dual companionway/private aft cabin set up on the 424. Merry Christmas!

My boat is in the end of the yard where the showers and shore head are. I am sort of in front of the schooner Freebird, Valdez AK I am covered with white shrink wrap and it looks sort of like an albino hump back whale, there is a very long mast laying along the starboard side...the name (which is only on the Port side....is ROVER...BTW light grey hull with white bulwarks

    Hi First Mate,
I am the owner of the Shuttleworth 47 that John and I collaborated on and was built in South Africa in 2004/5 - launched 2005. We are in mauritius just about to complete an incredible circumnavigation which started in Cape Town in 2006. If you would like to "pick my brains" regarding the construction, performance, etc, I would be pleased to help.

    Regards,

    Mark van Niekerk

Thanks. It was fun to build and all the neighbors thought it was real cool too (towed the kids around in it for Halloween.) The down side is that the wife and also the primary baby sitter think that I am into pirate ships, so I periodically get pirate trinkets and crap like that. Mostly I did it because it was in nautical, fun to build and fun to show off.

Yes, we are SD64 hull #4. When you scan my profile comments, you will find hull#2, s/v Kela is a member of this board too.

A lot of info and photo's of the SD64's are in Dashew's Cruising Encyclopedia, incl. many of our hull number.
The SD64 was designed to be sailed and lived on by a cruising couple, without crew. The interior is only 39' but in the widest part (16') of the boat. There are watertight bulkheads on each end with a sail locker (the "barn") forward and an engine room aft of these bulkheads.

    ciao!
    Nick.
