I never did find out who designed her.. i do believe there were only 9 built though.. I have modified mine rather extensively.. they don't have any kind of cockpit from the factory.. there was a single seat right on the stern at the helm and it really sucked.. wasn't social at all.. also the companionway was off centre to the starboard side and that meant that when on watch you couldn't even see what was going on below.. and worst.. visa versa.
Thanks.. i really enjoyed working on her.. was a blast.. of course you never recover your costs but i didn't care.. i wanted what i wanted.. I am very happy with the out come..
Are you still looking to buy one?
If so I can give some information as to the challenges i found.. I will tell you now that when i went to replace the chain plates (one had developed a crack) I found that a third of the bolts where broken.. I feel lucky!!

HI James. Im looking at a "CT-48" like yours. I have found Bob Perry's comment that this is not the one he helped with, which is why the sailboatdata site has HIS CT48 on it, but not this one... I am trying to get information on providence.

So is it a Ta Chiao boat? And if so, do you know the designer? So far, best guess is Bruce Bingham.

EDIT: Bruce Bingham has stated categorically it isn't his design, so it must be from CS Chen, the fellow who designed the CT34. I have verified it is indeed Ta Chiao.

    BTW your work looks amazing!
