Hi Johnny, sorry it has taken me so long to notice your comments. I don't get email notification of comments, only PMs. Best to PM, or better yet to call. Way to much info for me to type. Feel free to call me. 812-499-4680.

Mike, I do not know if this is unorthodox to just message you out of the blue but I am a college student getting ready to to commit to four more years of schooling along with my roommate and we both want to do something adventurous as well as fun. What came to mind was sailing the Mississippi, particularly the southern part. Most likely from Cape Giraudoux MO down to New Orleans. I wanted just about as much information as you can give me on the river and regulations. I really do not know where to start. I own an O'Day sailer she is 16'9'' and in good condition. I have done some sailing on large lakes in Arkansas and Missouri with that boat and also two trips to the Bahamas on two different 40' boats. However, I would still consider myself a novice sailor. I really like the O'Day and was wanting your honest opinion on if she would be a realistic way to travel the Mississippi.

She has a retractable keel and camping alongside the river or on the boat is no problem. She also an outboard on her. Roughing it is not the issue for us I just wanted information on the experience. Specifically how you prepared: Supplies, costs, and handy things to have on board I would not intuitively think of. Also, how to deal with other watercraft, wind conditions, and any governmental hoops I need to to jump through before going underway. This trip is going to be in July-August so time is on my side. Any help would be great and just trying to find info I came across you and your blog. I am extremely impressed. Thanks for taking the time to read this if and when you get the chance.
