Thanks for your original posting kiwiradical! Great idea I believe. While my preferred method of wee-weeing is to go below and use the head in the middle of the night on watch alone I believe I would prefer to stay on deck.

Would have really liked to have had this when I did my first point to point race in college on an old IOR boat that had no head...I was the only woman on a boat of eleven others, all guys, and the race ended up being 12 hours long and because I was shy back in the day I held it the whole time...Yup! Insane...of course we were all dehydrated because I was the only one that brought a gallon of water. The race was only supposed to be four hours at best...who knew there would be hardly any wind until the sun set...

I could have used a bucket but I didn't.

Glad I am no longer shy about my bodily functions.

Once had a Professor in college who taught English. On a philosophical and root level, she felt that societies that actually have to deal with their sh*& and not just flush it down, have much healthier relationships with nature and each other...

Back to the subject at hand, if in bad weather, I do not have to trapse down the companionway and get the cabin all wet, peel off layers of foulies, and fight to get them back on, I am all for it!

I think I agree with your professor!..It's interesting how many people seem to be divorced from the realities of life...urination is a perfectly normal human occurrence, it's only our society that has decided it's a subject best not discussed, and to be hidden away. It's interesting to note that as recently as the 17 and 18th centuries it was quite acceptable for high society ladies to use a chamber pot at the dinner table, or even in church! (The 'Bourdaloue' was reputedly used by women during Pierre Bourdaloue's -a 17th century preacher- lengthy sermons..possibly also the origin of the word 'loo' -valuable antiques today, they look like a gravy boat with no spout so if you ever see something like that buy it!)

It's quite fascinating seeing the different reactions people have to the idea, negative reactions don't seem to be based on rational thought, rather on cultural prejudices.

The interesting thing about the 'pee tube' is that on a cruising boat with three women crew they all over time began to use it in preference to the head..just because it was so convenient. Once you're over the initial cultural issues, convenience takes over. It's just no big deal, nothing is exposed using it, it's just quick and easy.

Sheewees etc are fine for mobile use, but on a boat the existence of something that is ready to use, doesn't have to be got, or carried, cleaned, dried, stored etc is a big advantage. half a bucket of sea water down it once a day is all it needs.

Can't make it to the head, rail, or sea? Simply pee on the cockpit sole. It's no big deal. In rough conditions it rinses itself away. Otherwise use a little water. Probably move the sheets. Standard operating procedure on short handed boats. Sometimes the foulies don't even get lowered.

Most sailboat heads are rather small compartments and the "loo" orientated athwartships so bracing yourself is not a problem with either your feet or hands. As to flushing it is not necessary to always use the flush water "on" position just for urine.
- - I added some stainless steel 12" handles just under the head counter top to assist in "holding on" during heeling or rough seas. And the trips down "below" also are good to check on things in the cabin especially to detect any water sloshing back and forth across the cabin sole.

I wouldn't buy one, now that I know where it's been.

Watched a modern version of Cinderella recently. In one scene the chambermaid emptied the colored water from the chamber pot right out the window.

If one searches the net, there are educative ( non-porn) sites which instruct women how to pee standing up without the need of any devices. Seems like a good skill to have, esp in Asian countries.

I don't even like blokes peeing off the side of my boat. I have almost fallen in myself doing it therefore prefer not to. I wouldn't do it with women guests aboard out of courtesy to them. (or in case they started laughing) Also out of courtesy to them, I would prefer to be able to provide clean, hygenic and discreet facilities so that any women will feel comfortable. On other threads I have read the laments regarding lack of women who want to go cruising. May be if we make the girls feel special they might want to come cruising and not many girls I know would think a pee-tube is special.
