Docks scare me more than the boat. Child safety is one of the reasons we were interested in switching to a catamaran. The boat is essentially a center cockpit with several barriers including lifelines (we added netting) before the edge, and there is always a parent on "toddler watch".

Docks on the other hand just have an edge, and parents are not only chasing a toddler but carrying backpacks, groceries, laundry, whatever it might be.

This is a nice video. Well edited and tempoed. The music was relevant in that it helped move the story along; who wants to hear the motor drone on for 10 minutes.

You've put a lot of time into it and it shows. I wouldn't change a thing. Your videos are about you and your family and your voyage.

BTW, I'm also one of those terrible parents that only requires our son to wear his PFD when we are under way.

Re: Erie Canal with 2 year old

I completed the Erie Canal last summer. I noticed your picture of Wardell's Marina in North Tonawanda, New York. You had your mast rigged there, how did you make out with him? The one thing that I noticed between him and Oswego Marina is the cost per foot of the mast. Wardell $7.00 per foot and Oswego $3.00 per foot.
We did 72 locks and enjoyed every bit of it.

Wardell is kind of EXPENSIVE* & his carpenter friend is no good There's another marina -Smith Boys, 280 Michigan Street, North Tonawanda, NY 14120 (716) 695-3472 - but I don't know their rates (Call them) & you have to motor around the island back & forth before entering the Erie Canal...
*But he's good, he's done so many I think he did my Marie-Soleil back in 1980, when I went through the EC for the first time !

Re: Erie Canal with 2 year old

We used Wardell a few years back to put our mast up and he was...lets say less than helpful.

I would avoid his establishment in the future.
