Re: A man's guide to women's foul weather gear!

Lisa and I wear ski bibs and jackets (the north face and mountain hardwear). For visitors we shopped good will and bought some snow boarder pants and jackets cheap.

I wouldnt want foulies that fit too "well". You need room to move and to allow breathing inside. Had tight ones before and will opt for the looser fit. Who's watching? JMHO

Re: A man's guide to women's foul weather gear!

I wear Gill marine ladies size 14 salopettes and jacket. The salopettes are cut for ladies and are incredibly comfortable to wear and they even have a. "Escape hatch" around the back.

As to the person who said they only use landswear, I sail at 53ºN and we had hail and driving rain out at sea yesterday and anybody without sea gear would have developed hypothermia. It was bitterly cold but I stayed warm and dry. My gear was worth every penny.

Re: A man's guide to women's foul weather gear!

We just received the West Marina Christmas mailer, which shows women boat cloths and shoes in women colors, pink, grey, purple white red, blue and of course Black.

My favorite colors are pink, purple and Grey as they tend to go together. White gets dirty to quickly. Red is not my color and blue/black are so male.

I tend to look at colors that will contrast with the water, day or night. That lets out blue and black. Yellow or red for me. My jacket is a Ronstan "Hobart" model, 5 yrs. old, and losiing its waterproofness, and about to be replaced. Jim's WM jacket has been history for the past year and about a half. None of this stuff tends to last forever. I do buy the men's stuff, though, for the same reasons mentioned above, except also, nor does the women's fit me that much better, so choose the seemingly higher quality.

Ann, I'm with you: only bright colors that contrast with the water. I go with men's for the longer length to keep more of me warm and dry. Have you tried 303 FabricGuard to restore "waterproofness"? A good wash; dry on high to realign the polymer chains; good spray with 303 and my ancient Gortex is good to go.
