Yeti. Keeps hot hot all hay, cold and ice all day too. I keep one for coffee, one for cold stuff. Get the slide top. For me, worth it. Nice hot coffee into late afternoon.

Re: ISO: The perfect sailing coffee/tea cup/mug

I have been in search of an ‘untipoverable’ device for many years now. Have tried the weighted bottom funky shaped coffee mugs, but don’t like drinking out of them. I use a stainless 20 or 30 oz tumbler for my coffee (and a 16 oz Tervis tumbler for my adult beverages) with a silicone base....but it still can be knocked over. A friend told me about these cup holders made by a company called TOADFISH out of Charleston, SC. Here is their website so you can look them up.
https://toadfishoutfitters.com/

I ordered one and can’t say enough about it! Haven’t been able to tip it over yet and believe me I’ve tried! It must be on a slick surface to work, so textured non skid won’t hold it. It has a suction cup disk on the bottom and to pick it up you must lift it straight up, not on an angle. Her are a couple pictures of it. Hope this solves your problem also!

Funny, I read your requirements, and it sounds like you are looking for foul weather gear!

YETI insulated wine tumbler. It serves a dual purpose in our boat for both both wine and coffee. It is unbreakable, stainless steel, keeps coffee hot for ages, stylish, and saves space as it works for wine too!

Re: ISO: The perfect sailing coffee/tea cup/mug

I find the stainless mugs (e.g., Yeti and others) with the plastic lid to burn our lips when drinking. We've been using the gift-shop ceramic captains mugs with wide bottom and find they work well. A bit worried when we break one, though.

We have a couple of stainless insulated wide bottom West Marine cups.

I’m partial to these but any of the double insulated SS mugs is fine. Be sure to get a extra cap for when the original breaks.

Being s/s, they're easy to clean, and nothing has ever burnt on to them, which might be a real problem.

Maybe you could get some kind of a sponge on a stick sort, that you could also use to reach into the far corners of lockers and cupboards with, then it would have two purposes?

Citric acid is great for cleaning tea and coffee stains. Spray it on and let sit for a few minutes and the stains just wipe off. You still have to get something down in the cup, but hard scrubbing is not required. I buy it in the Comet brand "bathroom cleaner", but it is just citric acid - non-toxic, not very corrosive, basically pretty friendly stuff as cleaners go.

Re: ISO: The perfect sailing coffee/tea cup/mug

I use ceramic mugs. I have ones that fit in the cockpit drink holders. I drink tea til it’s ice cold and keep going.
I really do not like the feel or taste of drinking from metal or plastic.
Ceramic or glass for me.
And yes there are a lot of fantastic insulated drinking mugs out there these days. We have some. But not my speed.

Does this work on brushed stainless coffee mugs?

I drink tea from one and it's a pain to keep clean, requiring regular hard scrubbing with green pad....

Just checked out your site. Nice layout. A couple of gems in there too. I'll check the podcast out as well tomorrow.
Thanks! That was a handy little resource add.

Re: ISO: The perfect sailing coffee/tea cup/mug

A long time ago I bought 2 stainless steel mugs at West Marine that have been great for not tipping. They have really wide bottoms and more narrow at the top. They are also insulated and have lids. They don't sell them anymore, but I found similar ones like the wide bottom mugs from Eddie Bauer.
