Put one foot in front of the other

My wife and I have talked about living aboard for years. People would ask, “oh, you know how to sail?” We’d have to say no, but we will. Now with less than 2 years till retirement, we are sailing every weekend own our own small sailboat (22’ Sirius) and taking steps towards realizing our dream. Looking forward to learning more from this forum and connecting with others that share the sailing passion!

Re: Put one foot in front of the other

I had the same dream. Now we're seven years into it. There are good days and bad, jumping for joy and the stuff of nightmares. I don't regret a bit of it.

It sounds like you're doing all the right stuff. Can't wait to hear chapter 2!

Re: Put one foot in front of the other

Welcome to the forum. We went through the same start. About 5 years before moving aboard we bought a small lake boat(san juan 7.7) and sailed the crap out of it.
Now we are 2 years aboard a 42 foot catamaran.
Keep with it! It's worth the effort and is a wonderful retirement.

We don’t expect all rainbows and butterflies but definitely know there will be no regrets! Thanks so much for the feedback!

Re: Put one foot in front of the other

Awesome start rjayne1. My first sailboat was a 22' O'Day. Great little boat. Big enough to go out for a few days, but small enough so that it was easily manageable. Great start.

When you are ready, move up to something slightly larger. Sailing is the easiest part of living and cruising on a boat. Cruising skills, which include sailing, but also involve a whole lot of other factors, is key to future success.

But great start . Enjoy the journey.

Hi and welcome from Ontario Canada [emoji846]

Be mindful of how many times you one foot in front of the other lest you end up wet [emoji3]

Always happy to welcome kindred sailors. Fair winds [emoji569][emoji3]
