newbie in Wisconsin

I'm new to sailing and just bought my first boat, a 26' Southcoast that seems to be in very good condition structurally but needs a lot of cosmetic work. I should have it all put back together in a couple of weeks and ready for the water. I am new and I mean I have never even been on a sailboat before so I am looking for help so if anybody from the forum is in the area (Appleton WI) I would sure appreciate some advice and maybe even some sailing lessons. I am going to take some classes but its always nice to have someone see your boat and tell you what they're experienced eye sees

Re: newbie in Wisconsin

Congrats on your purchase! Where are you going to keep your vessel, Neenah? There should be plenty of sailors in the FRV that could give you some good instruction. I would like to help but right now I've got my hands full dealing with my fathers estate. I may be able to break away for a short time to have a look (I'm in the Oshburg area) and maybe help a bit. Enjoy your new purchase! Steve

Hi Steve
I rented a slip at the High Cliff Marina, anytime you want to get away I would love to have an experience person take a look
Thanks
Jeff

Re: newbie in Wisconsin

I'm quite interested to know if/when they get the lock there opened for navigation.

Do you mean the lock into Little Lake Butte des Morts, the Menash lock
Just looked it up, it will stay closed for 2018

Are you from the area?

Re: newbie in Wisconsin

Hopefully, the locks will never be opened. We've already got our share of invasive species in the upper lakes and rivers. No need to add more to the mix, any sooner than possible!

Re: newbie in Wisconsin

Not from the area. It was my impression they would probably build a lift system around the lock for boats.
