New Salt

I certainly don't qualify as an old one yet.

Just signed up for an account, though I've been reading the forum for years and have found it immensely helpful many times.

Learning to sail since 2008. Started chalking up real miles in the last 18 months. Currently somewhere north of 7,800 nm, mostly blue water. Just helped crew across the Atlantic with ARC Europe, currently helping crew in the Mediterranean. Have also helped with a couple of U.S./Caribbean deliveries. Learning lots, and having the time of my life. Meeting a lot of wonderful people and making some great memories. Looking forward to more of each.

Favorite things about sailing are night skies in the middle of the ocean with no light pollution and endless stars, as well as when the dolphins show up and hang out with you for a while. Catching tuna and eating it 20 minutes later is also nice.

Least favorite things are cleaning bilges and surprise equipment failures in heavy weather.

Thank you to all who selflessly share their knowledge here.

Re: New Salt

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the welcome. Currently traveling by train from London to Hong Kong, then a cargo freighter to Los Angeles. I looked for a sailboat leaving from Japan or nearby but didn't find one and want to finish an around the world without a plane after crossing the Atlantic with the ARC Europe rally this summer. May end up trying to find a boat doing the regular ARC in November if I can make it to the Canaries in time.

Howdy and Welcome aboard this forum!

Wow…what a train trip! London to HK!

I also like your intent (to travel a circ without airplane). Cool! Wish I could do that too.

I hope you will share some of your stories here (or post a link to your blog etc.).

Safe travels!
