New Sailor From Lower Hudson Area in NY

Hello fellow cruisers,

I lurked the forum for while and finally joined. Great community!

I grew up in Europe with sea all around but, between studying and work, life went fast. Now in my mid-40ies and in NY, I am finally getting more realistic about my dream of spending more time sailing.

In the past two years, I have done some sailing on the Hudson and more recently on the sound. I took two ASA certificates (101 and 103). I am hoping to break into boat ownership (something in the 32-36 foot range) in the future but likely not this season.

I will ask questions in other forums but if any more seasoned sailor needs some crew and company for some weekend cruising around here (Westchester, CT, etc.), do not hesitate to message me.

Cheers

Thanks Nauticus. Regarding the boat, I am still at the information-gathering stage. Browsing the usual yachtworld, boattrader and others. As a first timer, it is a bit intimidating.

I am interested primarily in short coastal cruising with the occasional overnight. So I am thinking about something in the 32-36 foot range, possibly no older than 15 years. We shall see...

That's a good size. Comfy, and room to store, move around and add shiney bits to. If they ever let us out again, I'll be on your side of the lake. Maybe we'll pass in your new girl [emoji6]

Yep. Seems like things will reopen soon... at least around North America. Fingers crossed and happy sailing.
