New from Alaska

Hello Sailors
I just signed up so yes I'm new, I have been checking out the posts for about a year and I'm impressed with what I've read. My wife and I have two boats a 12'6" sailing dingy lap strake hull and a 20' Steve Redmond "Elver". The Elver is the boat you will be hearing about as I repair the stem post due to dry rot so if anyone feels like giving advice please do.

Welcome Rocky! What part of Alaska? I spent two years in Kodiak. Good luck with your project!

Welcome! Some advice: get all of the rot. Some people have a strange tendency to get most of the rot, then end up going back later and doing it all over. Get all of the rot out, be sure.

Absolutely. You may have to cut away some good wood just to make sure you have gotten all the bad wood and its spores. And make sure the wood you use to replace the bad is well seasoned.
