Mike and Miscky

I havent yet introduced myself, so here goes.

I'm a 46 year old guy, who has never particularly had any secret desire to do any sailing of any nature whatsoever. Yet I recently (8 months ago) bought a ferro 43ft Hartley Fijian yacht and have been sprucing it up for a life at sea, however long or short it may be.

I completed a skippers course and have all the necessary tickets, but honestly not heaps of experience. Have done a few overnight passages on the South African east coast (Indian Ocean).

My original crew compliment have all faded due to 'responsibilities and committments' and I will struggle to handle this 18 ton vessel on my own.

My plan is to leave SA Feb/March 2013 and head towards the Caribbean, I have posted a 'crew wanted' ad in the relevent section, but I may be open to a longer term committment with a boatless sailor with a bucket load of cash.

In reality, I really just want to travel to warm places and turns out im not too shabby at the sailing thing.

Have had a lot of fun reading some of the threads on here, you are a witty bunch.

Re: Mike and Miscky

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Non-slip or non-skid on the bottom and hull sides would be overdoing it. Where you have it and even in between is ok. When the decks are awash its hard to tell where your foot is going to go down so even if the non-slip covers the deck its ok.
kind regards,

Be sure to check out Felixgotti's post in this section, they seem like a good possibility for you. Anyways, I hope you find your crew and have some adventures.
Cheers,
