Hi from Soggy Manchester, UK

9 months ago I became the proud owner of a Westerley Griffon, presently on a swinging mooring in Abersoch, North Wales. As I live in Manchester, 2hrs. 15mins away, this location is not ideal although a gorgeous cruising area.
I am thinking of relocating her to Fleetwood marina on the Fylde Coast.
As a novice sailor, I am looking to enlist the services of an experienced seafarer to assist me on the passage. I am wanting to make this move asap. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Graham,

Welcome onboard! Manchester isn't so bad..I lived in Chorlton-cum-Hardy for two years and can distinctly remember atleast four sunny days. My sister and Brother in law (who taught me sailing) lived in Bangor and in summer most weekend I spent there sailing on his folkeboat. Both in Carnarven and then out of Conway. Lovely sailing area although then too a PITA to get there. Abersoch and surrounds is considered one of the best sailing areas in England and Wales as well as many RYA affiliated sailing clubs to obtain your practical certification... also a little gem of a golf course. They moved to Heyhsam and had the boat somewhere near Gressom. Alex grew to love the Morecombe Bay. Sadly I only sailed once with him there. we had a weekend trip to Barrow on Furness. Beautiful area too, but Morecombe Bay has a tide that needs great caution.

There used to be a lot of small private/university type sailing clubs there not salubrious but very enthusiastic. With the M6 on your doorstep easy to get too, but from my point of view less interesting that where your boat is now.

Anyway there are quite a number of UK based members here who may be able to give current information.

Once again welcome onboard...you will find a myriad of information here.

Regards

Alan

Hi James
Many thanks for the thread.
The moving process has started, I sailed her round to Pwllheli last Thursday, the conditions were perfect. Was a little worried regarding her condition following the ferocious storms around Abersoch in the past 2 or 3 weeks and being on a swinging mooring there, I did expect to approach her sitting low in the water, got on board though and she was as dry as a bone.
Just waiting now for a skipper getting back, to assist me make the passage to Fleetwood, hopefully next week.

Regards Graham

Hi Graham, I'm in Manchester as well, and at the moment my boat is in the yard at Pwllheli, sailed her down there last week from Liverpool, and hopefully should be back in the water end of this week for the sail back to Liverpool.
I'm really busy this week, so afraid I can't help you on the passage, but its a really pleasent trip, you'll like the Swellies, just be sure to make the bridges at the right time.
Good luck
