Finally Saying Hello !

Hello everyone!

I signed up here years ago, and have done a lot of reading, but never got around to posting.

So, here's my first post! Woo Hoo!

Anyway, I'm Dean, and I have a 1969 Westerly Nomad that I'm currently restoring after getting her back again.

You know the old love story, boy finds boat, boy has boat taken, boy finds boat again and keeps her forever!

She's a great boat, and I have total confidence in her construction.

Our kids are adults now, so it's about playtime. We will be using her for cruising, both coastal and farther offshore.

I will be documenting a lot of everything in my blog, starting from the time I first saw her, and continuing from there. (More pictures too! )

What a great thing you found her again, and a great name for the boat.

I've always thought the Westerlys were interesting, with the twin keels for worry-free grounding. Very useful for gunkholing in tidal waters.

Westerlys really are great boats, IMHO! From what I know of mine, it is extremely strong, and could withstand almost anything.

I really enjoy spending time here, perhaps too much! LOL

Sure beats work!

BTW, anyone with knowledgeable advice or opinions on Westerly Nomads, please feel free to let me know.

Hi Dean! Welcome!

I'm new to all this fun, but after hooking into the 40' cruising dream and realizing my husband was totally "on board", we've worked our way backwards to a solid starting point, so I'm searching about for a 22-25' pocket cruiser that is in good repair and won't break the budget.

It's so exciting! I cannot WAIT to have something to call my own and jump onboard and start learning the ropes. Never sailed a lick, but my husband has been on CG ships for 13 years now. We're both gypsy/pirate souls.

I hope we get to see more pics from you!

Looked at a 26' Westerly not too long ago and found it to be very sturdy and well made.
