A Greetings to All; Especially Those From Bellingham and Portland!

Hey All!

We are Ray and Rose, or, RandR for short. We are an aspiring Boat Couple whom are looking to move to Bellingham in early 2021; fine tune our sailing skills around the San Juans before making the journey south to Baja in the Winter of 2021

Ray in his early 20's taught scuba diving and sailing on, and off, a variety of boats in a variety of locations. That life-style transitioned into a traveling one which transitioned into a VW Bus-centered one

Rose is a multi-talented artist who currently pays the bills working for a Landscape Design Firm, while doing professional residential work under her own umbrella, as well as looking for opportunities, and creating them, to install large-scale art pieces and installations.

The Call of the Sea Beckons, as the smell of the salt invigorates our senses and wakens our mind.

This weekend we are traveling up to Bellingham to get a lay of the land (and sea) as well as check out a few boats

Our budget is 8-14k, and looking for a <35 footer

If any of you kind souls in the area, or in Portland, would like to take some time out of your day for a coffee, and we could pick your brain about your current or past boat, sailing the San Juans, Cruising to Cabo and the like, that would be absolutely grand

Looking forward to meeting you all in-person, and online

Welcome to the forum RanR. Your dream is very doable. Keeping it small and cheap.

Re: A Greetings to All; Especially Those From Bellingham and Portland!

Welcome to CF! We're in Blaine, about 20 miles north of Bellingham.

We brought our boat here six years ago with the same plan as yours. Trouble is, we fell in love with the area and in former years (pre Covid) we head up north via the inland passage to Alaska, hoping, but running out of summer before we make it. We keep taking this channel or visiting this village we heard about. Oh well, it's the journey not the destination.

So the current plan is to load up our camper and drive south this year. I admit the winter weather (and lack of daylight) makes living aboard not so much fun.

Good luck to you, sounds like a good plan.

Thank y'all for the welcoming

It IS certainly about the journey and not the destination, we shall see where the journey takes us.

Thanks for the heads up about Blaine as well, seems like a cozy little town and still accessible to Bellingham, both things we are certainly looking for.

Never even thought about sailing up to Alaska until now... I would certainly imagine that is quite the tight weather window

Happy Cruisin!
