Re: What did we Learn from the 60's?

I think we learned that it is a hell of a lot easier to tear things down than create a better alternative. Many of the changes were long overdue, but the excesses that followed have been a disaster. And I have never forgotten that the same folks that were smoking dope at Woodstock and crying "Down with the system!" became some of the most selfish materialists on the planet. Some of this is just the changes with aging, but a lot is quite new for this generation. As a result it is going to be a lot tougher row to hoe for those that follow.

Re: What did we Learn from the 60's?

All I learned in the 60s was how to keep my butt safe from little fellas trying to put holes in me ! And I learned that I HAD to bild a boat to sail away in ! When I returned to the world in Dec. 1969 I started to bild my Colvin. Finished her in 1971 may 6th Connie and I and the kid's left the PNW and sailed her 25 + yrs so I guess I learned something in the 60s, I found I deal a lot better with folks if I don't have to live next door to them !! Still feel the same way today !

Thought it was a far tougher row to hoe for the pre boomer, or the war/depression generation. My parents views and opinions seemed deeply formed by the depression. Never took on debt of any kind. Were speechless with sister's $25k mortgage. Couldn't get a handle on it.

Re: What did we Learn from the 60's?

What I learned in the 60s is that pop culture is a sh*t stream forever flowing past and too many people think it's a bubble bath and play in it. True for every decade of my life.

Most of the people I knew didn't play in the stream but the pages of Time and Life and the Post and Gazette and the relatively new TV media played it up to sell their wares and now everyone thinks every week throughout the 60s was Woodstock.

Re: What did we Learn from the 60's?

What I remember of 1968 we had no middleschool so being bused from a very small town to the central high school was that none of the girls wore a bra. Wow what an eye opener. I loved high school!

Re: What did we Learn from the 60's?

As a child of the seventies, what I learned from the sixties is that children of the eighties onward are screwed, and that they can thank the children of the sixties, fifties, and forties for the messed up world in which they now live.

My advice to all you fat little diabetic kids is to party like there is no tomorrow!

Re: What did we Learn from the 60's?

Well, at least we had some commitment back then. When was the last time you remember reading about college students being so opposed to The War that they were willing to be clubbed, maced, tear gassed, and arrested for it?

The internet and video games left us with a World of Wimps.
