According to Merriam-Webster, woke means;
“aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)”.
Criticising “woke culture” has become a way of claiming victim status for yourself, rather than acknowledging that more deserving others hold that status.
It has gone from a virtue signal to a dog whistle.
The language has been successfully co-opted, by the right wingnuts.
But, don’t worry, as long as the underlying injustices remain, new words will emerge to describe them, and the people who note, and decry them.

Q: What do you call a wolf, that is “woke”?
A: An awarewolf.

Q: What do you call a "woke" droid?
A: R2-Me2.

I've always thought of "culture" as something in a petri dish.
Starts out benign, then becomes toxic

In this case, woke became cancel culture towards anyone with differing opinions on the importance of context.

Only after it was successfully co-opted by the left wingnuts who took a word meaning "not asleep" and used it to refer to people espousing their own politcal views - implying that everyone else was comatose.

Seems like a reasonable interpretation of the available facts to me..!

I prefer aware to awoke, though....

The antonym of which is perhaps less offensive, being unaware....

Implicit in that is the potential for that non-awareness to be involuntary, rather than purblind imbecility, as might be implied from the other interpretation.
