This "truckers protest" has done far more damage to our economy than the mandate that the cross border truck drivers be vaccinated. The stupidity is that CBSA won't allow them into the US anyway. The rest of their demands are either against provincial mandates or for the destruction of a legally elected parliament.
This was NOT an armed uprising as you and the hapless canadian leader are inferring.
And anyway, this was NOT about damaging the economy (who cares anyway... Dictator Trudeau could have stopped it easily after day 1, but preferred to let it get out of hand because it suits his political needs).
Most Canadian states are now dropping mandates even though Trudeau isn't.

Re: Science & Technology News

Worldwide, people are demanding their freedom back after 2 years of being lied to and controlled by their governments.

The Truckers Convoys are springing up worldwide. Reason being... truckers control supply chains in EVERY country in the world... they likely are more powerful than politicians.

They have basically destroyed Trudeau. They have exposed him for what he truly is, a Socialist Dictator.

Its all about FREEDOM.

Treadu is the only politician that is not dropping the useless mandates . your socialist leader has done far more damage to your economy. Not to mention the truckers have been trying to meet with your dictator in charge for months he refused to talk to them so they went on a national strike. . how else will they get their valid grievances heard. Mandates don't work all they do is piss most people off all that is except the sheep .

Re: Science & Technology News

Usual misinformation.

There has been no national strike by truckers in Canada.

Trudeau hasn't got the powers to be a dictator (for Chr sakes, he has a minority government), etc etc.

But perhaps such facts are beyond some peoples' comprehension....

Canadian "states"? Way to know your neighbour.

Sorry Brudda, I'm in Australia. We have "States"... you, I see now, have "Provinces"

We both have "Premiers".

We both also have "Prime Ministers"... though yours appears to be a socialist dictator.

Interesting. A socialist, and a fascist. Why not a devil-worshiping wife-beater?
At least, you're consistently 'hyper-anti', and wrong.

Re: Science & Technology News

Published February 15, 2001:
“Initial sequencing and analysis of the human genome” ~ International Human Genome Sequencing Consortium
“The human genome holds an extraordinary trove of information about human development, physiology, medicine and evolution. Here we report the results of an international collaboration to produce and make freely available a draft sequence of the human genome. We also present an initial analysis of the data, describing some of the insights that can be gleaned from the sequence ...”
Here ➥ https://www.nature.com/articles/35057062

First Draft of the Human Genome Sequence Released ~ NIH
Some of the important observations were:
- The estimated number of genes is about 30,000 (later revised to about 20,000-25,000). This is only one-fourth as great as previously thought and only a few thousand more than that of the tiny roundworm C. elegans and less than that for the plant Arabidopsis thaliana.
- The haploid human genome sequence contains 2.85 billion bases.
- The average gene consists of about 40,000 bases, but gene sizes vary greatly. The largest known human gene is dystrophin (which is associated with Duchenne muscular dystrophy). It runs approximately 2.4 million bases.
- The DNA sequence in any two individuals is 99.9 percent identical.
-The functions are unknown for over half of the discovered genes.
- Less than 2 percent of the genome codes for proteins.
- The proteome (the complete collection of proteins in the cell) is larger than the genome. - The average human gene produces three different proteins.
- Repeated sequences that do not code for proteins make up at least half of the human genome.
- The gene-rich regions of the genome are predominantly composed of the bases guanine and cytosine, while in gene-poor regions, the bases adenine and thymine dominate.
- Genes appear to be concentrated in random areas along the genome, with vast expanses of noncoding DNA in between.
- Chromosome 1 has the most genes (about 3,000) and the Y chromosome has the fewest (about 230).
- Over 3 million single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been found in the human genome. SNPs are common single-base variations in the genome. They are being used to identify regions of the genome associated with disease. The human genome is estimated to contain approximately 10 million SNPs.
- The number of germline (sperm or egg cell) mutations in males is approximately twice that seen in females.
- In humans, genes are unevenly spread throughout the genome, while in prokaryotes, genes are evenly spaced throughout the genome.
- The human genome has a much greater portion (50 percent) of repeat sequences than the mustard weed (11 percent), the nematode worm (7 percent), and the fruit fly (3 percent).

UBC researchers create a fabric coating that kills COVID-19, E. coli
According to a release from the university, the liquid coating decreases the infectivity of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, by up to 90 per cent.
The solution can work in two different ways. When added to fabrics, it can work with little to no light. However, when it's exposed to ultraviolet light or light coming from light bulb or the sun, it gets a boost to kill off bacteria or viruses.

Truckers don't control anything. Literally anyone can drive a truck. They have no leverage.

Maybe... just like anyone can walk into a crew position with zero experience and sail a yacht across the Atlantic and return, run a 60 acre farm, own and operate a hotel, restaurant and motel, backpack around the world, trade currencies, breed and train hundreds of racing dogs, be a contract cleaner, ride a motor bike around a continent, operate a night club, operate a bulldozer, hitchhike across Asia, operate ski lifts, repair and rebuild garden machinery like chain saws, ride-on mowers and blowers... etc, etc, etc.

Anyone can achieve anything they put their mind to, whether out of necessity or simply because they just want to do it.

I've achieved all of the above (and much more) in my 74 years...

Oh, and I have operated a truck hauling produce driving 12 hour shifts 6 days a week.

WHY? Because I had the FREEDOM to do whatever I chose with my life.

You may favour socialism, I favour FREEDOM... which is why I have been buying Bitcoin for just over 5 years... and I DON'T sell my Bitcoin, because it represents FREEDOM from the tyranny of governments.

I'm not a socialist. And I need freedom too. And I agree pretty much 100% with the things you want.

I don't see anyone taking away any of the liberties you speak of.

The difference between you and I is I don't lose my mind when I see people acting as a community. Getting vaccinated to protect the immunocompromised. Funding a social safety net for those who had bad luck. Wearing masks to put a dent in the spread of a global respiratory virus pandemic. That's not an attack on my freedom, its just decent people acting as a community.

Much like those with the delusional fantasies about climate change being a liberal hoax to destroy the very same economy us liberals rely on as much as you, you are failing to apply 'occam's razor'- probabilistically speaking, the simplest explanation is the one to bet on. Masks aren't a tool of the oppressor, they are a thing that goes over your face that blocks some of this virus from flying out. MMGW isn't a great complicated conspiracy with bizarre financial motives that don't hold up to basic scrutiny, there's just an awful lot of folks in an awful lot of fields that have seen signs that we may have a problem.

You see boogiemen everywhere you look. The world is clearly a cold and terrifying place for you.

He has enacted the emergency powers act . Read up on it afterall it is a law in your country that expands government overreach with 0 accountability.

Thin line between socialist and fascist. The end is the same it's all in how they get to that point.

with 0 accountability?

Clearly YOU are ignorant of the "Emergencies Act".

Read up before you make such incorrect statements:
https://www.canada.ca/en/department-...ncies-act.html

Here, to help you understand, is some info:

Democratic safeguards: parliamentary oversight, accountability, and respecting Canadians’ individual rights

The Emergencies Act has stringent, built-in protections which ensure democratic oversight and accountability with respect to the way in which the Government exercises its powers under the Act.

The Act also requires consultation with the provinces and territories before a Declaration is issued, unless the provinces and territories cannot be adequately consulted without unduly jeopardizing the effectiveness of the proposed action. Once a Declaration is issued, a report must be tabled in Parliament within seven sitting days explaining the consultations that have taken place.

Impact of the Emergencies Act on individual rights

When the Emergencies Act is invoked, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (Charter) continues to protect individual rights as the Government of Canada takes the necessary steps to safeguard the safety and well-being of Canadians. In deciding on measures to take, the Government must respect constitutionally protected rights and freedoms, including the rights of citizens to enter Canada and the right to life, liberty and security of the person, as well as Canada’s obligations under international law. The Charter allows the Government to balance the rights of the individual with the interests of society where limits on guaranteed rights and freedoms can be justified in a free and democratic society.

Specifically, section 1 of the Charter allows the Government to put limits on rights and freedoms if those limits:

- are set out in law;
- pursue an important goal which can be justified in a free and democratic society; and
- pursue that goal in a reasonable and proportionate manner.

This means that during a public order emergency, as defined by the Emergencies Act, the Government must only take actions that are a reasonable and proportionate response to the risks to safety of Canadians.
Transparency and accountability

In view of its exceptional nature, there are additional, stringent safeguards built into the Act to ensure democratic oversight and accountability during an emergency. The following procedural steps act as checks and balances under the law:

- Declaration: The Government of Canada must formally declare an emergency, effective from the day it is made.
- Government tables motion in Parliament: The Government must table a motion in both the House of Commons and the Senate within seven sitting days that asks for confirmation of the Declaration and explains the reasons for it. The Government also gives Parliament a report on the consultations held with provinces before the Declaration was made.
- Parliament votes: Both the House of Commons and the Senate must vote on the motion. If either the House of Commons or the Senate does not vote in favour of the Declaration, then it is revoked that very day.
- The Senate or House of Commons are recalled, if necessary: If either the Senate or the House of Commons is not sitting at the time the Declaration is issued, it must be recalled to sit within seven days of the date of the Declaration.
- Government issues and tables orders and regulations: Any Government actions taken to respond to the emergency must be tabled in both the House of Commons and the Senate two days after the Government issues the orders or regulations. This ensures that the Government’s actions are transparent and that the Government will be accountable before Parliament for its actions.
- A parliamentary review committee is established: A special joint committee of both the House of Commons and the Senate must be established to review the Government’s actions under the Act on an ongoing basis.
- Parliament exercises powers: At any time, the Senate or the House of Commons can review and potentially revoke the Declaration and any orders or regulations made under the Act.
- Declaration expires or is extended: The Declaration expires after 30 days unless an extension is confirmed within specific timelines by both the House of Commons and the Senate.
- An inquiry held: After the emergency has ended, the Emergencies Act requires the Government to hold an inquiry, and table a report to each House of Parliament within three hundred and sixty days after expiration or revocation of the declaration of emergency.

BUT, all this talk of the Emergencies Act, Canada and Trudeau is off topic. One wonders why these topics were brought up in this thread?
