Just finished reading Tony Horowitz's "Blue Latitudes". He basically retraces Capt Cooks three voyages as well as his home and upbringing. He has a buddy from
Australia who travels with him who is absolutely hilarious. It's not all sailing as he does flyto a number of Cooks destinations but it really does not detract from the book. It's a good "then vs now" point of view as well.
I'm reading "Sea of Glory" by Nathaniel Philbrick right now. It's about the U.S.'s Southern Seas Exploring Expedition from 1838-1842. It's a pretty enlightening look at a voyage few Americans know anything about. Much of it concentrates on the Captain's troubles with his officers as well as how the
Navy was dead set against providing any support. A good read with much on the issues of sailing within the Antarctic Circle.
This concludes my book report
