I hope you understand I am in full agreement Margo. If it isn't right and you can't make it right then move on for the best.

I have a boat picked out and I am in love with it, the previous owner lived aboard and traveled extensively on her. She is set-up for cruising and I have a check mark on everything I wanted in a boat, yes I am smitten with her.. Sometime between me sharing my intentions with my girlfriend and 2 months ago we split up, she left.. I say good ridence to her she has moved out and I am glad she is gone. However, this does bring up some problems for me , one, I will now be singlehanding this 40 ft. Morgan , something I didn't plan on. Two, I am concerned of being on the water by myself. Tell me how you deal with the lonely aspects of sailing. I am not a big fan of being by myself. I have already started dating some of the local ladies around town, I dare not tell them of my desire to live on the water. Most people think its crazy, either because they are jealous are just so stuck in a rut they don't understand my desire for peace and freedom. I would like to meet someone else to spend my time with. I guess my question boils down to this , what are the chances of meeting a lady and having a relationship while sailing the carribbean for a few years? If it ain't good, then tough I'll do with out..
You won't be lonely on the water, if you weren't lonely on dry land. If you were socally awkward on land and had problems with women, on the other hand, these won't disappear on the water, although at least you'll automatically have something to talk about ("Hey, gorgeous -- I was wondering, do you heave to, or trail a drogue and run off, in heavy weather, do tell?"), which might help you jump-start your patter.

A very messy divorce left me with nothing but debt...went bankrupt to only be critisized by my kids for messing up mommy.
That was many years ago...enough time to buy my dream boat and learn to sail and maintain her for a few years and complete my time before retirement and throwing off the lines.
I am paranoid of a relationship knowing what things were like...an impossible life of working different schedules and way different personalities...she was a social butterfly and me, almost a recluse. A relationship is alot of work!! There is a breaking point though. This is the time to get out no matter how much stuff is in jeopardy...kids especially.
I have my work cut out for me as my boat is in need of a refit and my lack of a relationship is of no real desire unless that desire surfaces in someone that I feel comfortable with who wants to share the "sailing thing" with. My ex. was a sailor and I thought that might work one day but I was the sailor...or Windsurfer as it was and there was not alot of room for her on that craft.
Couldn't stay off the water then and yearn to be on the water in the winter...canoe, whatever.
I'm sure there is someone else in my life but right now I'm busy keepin the final chapter on course and am waiting for the chemistry to happen. No sense in trying to fit something in.
Final note...Lawyers suck.

Although I am now an admitted lawyer I know pretty much how you feel! Lucky though my daughter is younger and actually loves spending time outdoors and sailing with dad. Anyway, I had better get off this computer, get the clothes out the washing machine and then take the kid and dog to the beach!

Oh Boatman, you are a font of information! [get it? wink wink, nod nod]

Relationships ARE fun, when we don't get either too busy or too fearful to enjoy it. If you make me feel good, and I make you feel good - what's not to like!
