Moving to Brisbane area, thoughts?

Greetings all!!!

Im planning on moving our 38ft Sports Cruiser to Brisbane and yes staying aboard alot! (Its time to take the leap)

Whats it like up there are the marinas flexible or do they have a hard and fast rule on liveaboards?

Would like to hear your thoughts.

Cheers Nick

Re: Moving to Brisbane area, thoughts?

Gday Nick, while we live on Lake Macquarie we know a lot of our friends who live on their boat from the Gold Coast all the way north to Gladstone. From what I know their appears to be plenty marinas around to meet your requirements. Indeed our intention is to move our Catamarnan to QLD for a season or two. Newport is also a very good marina for your requirements.

Re: Moving to Brisbane area, thoughts?

To get ground leases from the various authorities who exercise the rental of crown land pretty well all marina operators have to accept that live aboards will not be allowed. Fortunately most of them appear to ignore the requirement. Sort of like the prostitution thing, it's illegal an a number of states but tolerated as long as everyone behaves.

They do have move on laws which apply south of Gladsrone (I think) but I've never heard of anyone actually being moved on.

Overall it's been pretty quiet on the regulation front in Queensland for a few years now.
