Lightning Insurance

Has anyone heard of, enrolled in or filed a claim with this insurance product?

It goes under name of Lightening Shield by Mariners Alternative. My newly rebuilt 1972 Pearson 33 would be $200 per year for a flat $10,000 coverage. There is a $5000 coverage plan available at a lesser rate. I don't think there is a deductible. I am looking for experience regarding filing with your carrier a lightening strike. After 23 years of living aboard do know many who have been struck but never asked how their claim went. This company has a video and a convincing argument. I don't have my boat insured yet as I now hit $40k and boat will be new so I am willing to insure the boat for less and take lightening insurance. BTW ....in 23 years total I have never had a claim. Just thinking ahead. Comments??

LightningShield is merely supplemental to your standard boat insurance policy. I suppose it might be worthwhile if you boat in a particularly hazardous region and have a particularly large and vulnerable suite of electrics/electronics. Otherwise not, in my view.

If you don't have insurance on your boat, you aren't eligible for supplemental insurance -nothing to supplement. Regardless, basic liability insurance should always be a boater's primary need.

Guessing I failed to read that Lightening Shield is defined a a supplement. As I said, I planned to get insurance and reduce the amount of coverage because because I am more concerned about lightening. That being said, here in Florida I have experienced a lot of storms over 40 yrs and glad I missed the 2 back to back in 2016 while boat less. I have always been more concerned with lightening strikes.

Good hull insurance should cover lightening damage.

We are with Pantaenius USA and the lightening coverage included in the standard policy is great. No deductible, and full replacement cost--No depreciation.

I know of a few people who have had damage claims and all were handled fairly and expeditiously.
