12 Volt Bible for Boats
I was going to order this but reviews were not favourable despite the book being available in "revised edition". If not this book any recommends would be appreciated. Thanks...

Re: 12 Volt Bible for Boats
It's a pretty good basic beginners book. After you read that get Nigel Calders book,
Another book to have aboard is Peggie Hall's book.
Get Rid of Boat Odors by Peggie Hall
It deals with plumbing and sewage.

Charlie Wing's book is the go-to for me.

Re: 12 Volt Bible for Boats
Beeing a total novice and hopeless in trying to learn the basics of 12 volt mystic. I've had a great deal of help from Nigel Calders book. Allthough there is a lot of words.. I've managed to follow the text and come to some of my own conclutions. Its my "bible" on board. ( or actually it's my wife's as she got it for anniverary present some years ago.. Yes we're still married)

Re: 12 Volt Bible for Boats
Most of these books can be ordered by your local library, find a couple that look good to you and have your library request them and after looking at them decide which one works best for you.

You might find out what tech. schools use? One that comes to mind is " DC Fundamentals ". Not marine specific but a simple primer.

I heard some of the diagrams in this type of technical book don't come out too well in Kindle, Anybody out there with that kind of experience?

Haven't tried on these specific books on Kindle, but in general yes, viewing diagrams etc on native Kindle (at least the older one I have sucks), but its whole different experience running Kindle reader on my 10" tablet...full color, large page size, better zoom/pan functions (though still clunkier than Adobe).
Downloaded a sample of the the Wing book. Partial first chapter is quite readable on my tablet (lots of formulas and simple diagrams. Screen shot attached.

IYRS Marine Systems books (2011-2012 school year):
Nigel Calder, Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual
Charlie Wing, How Boat Things Work
Ed Sherman, Powerboater's Guide to Electrical Systems
Ed Sherman's book is a real gem. It's a much more accessible read than Nigel (aka " the bible"). I highly recommend it. Powerboaters are people, too!
PS: I first bought Ed's book in the Kindle version and it was almost unreadable. I definitely recommend getting the hard copy.

Charlie Wing's "Boatowner's Illustrated Electrical Handbook", which is excellent, is available free online here:

This is the latest edition.

Re: 12 Volt Bible for Boats
He might. But I doubt anything could be done about it - it leads back to a site in Russia.
