Re: USCG Documentation Lead Time

I don’t know if Coast Guard certification is necessary. Can someone please address this? Also, what is the typical cost for the cert? Thanks.

It is not required, they are two different items.

Re: USCG Documentation Lead Time

I recently renewed by email and I had the document within two weeks. I had no changes to the document. If there are changes such as with an address it might take longer.

So you've done this? Online payment, and email delivery? And it took 60 days?

I own two boats and that has been my experience. Best advise is pay for the documentation a couple of months BEFORE it expires.

Re: USCG Documentation Lead Time

You can only get an official document by mail. It can't be emailed or copied and be the official document. A copy has void or some such word all over it and the number near the bottom does not copy. Copies of your official document are wanted by customs agents, marinas, and some others. Keep your official document in your possession. As has been pointed out, you can renew a couple of months before it expires. I get an email notification when it is renewable.

Re: USCG Documentation Lead Time

I have been using a paper copy of an electronic pdf of my documentation for years at more than a few ports. Photo copy protection is ancient tech.

On January 28 I renewed my USCG registration on-line through pay.gov AND on February 11 received the certificate of documentation by mail, less that 3 weeks later.
