Slowly getting closer

Good day everyone,
New to the forums and first post here, please be gentle

Wife and I are slowly inching towards boat ownership for some sort of crusing and living aboard, undetermined amount of time yet, and have some questions.

We have done a couple of one 1/2 day cat sailings in barbados - the ones where you get pampered. From that moment on we felt in love with the feeling of being propelled by the wind on the ocean. Since then we have done a monohull sailing 1 day hands-on course in the northeast USA with a very experience skipper and have gone through thousands of hours of youtube episodes of all kinds of sailing related adventures.

We love the idea of being able to explore and visit uninhabited islands/beaches only accessible by boat. I built an RV van a few years back and used it to travel around the US/Canada and we really enjoyed the exploration and sleeping in your own self-sustained off-grid cocoon.

So, since we love sailing and ocean activities, but we don't know yet if we are the fulltime 365 days/year live-aboard kind, or the take off during winter months snowbirds adventurers, or just a few weeks at a time being enough, we think our next logical step is to do a week.

Aside from chartering a vessel ourselves (skippered or part-time skippered or solo?) what options are recommended to gain more experience that will tell us how much boating is in our future?

Thanks!!!!

Re: Slowly getting closer

If you live near the coast, buy a $5,000-$15,000 boat now and start getting experience on your own.
