Insurance for high latitudes?

Has anyone recently received insurance for high latitude sailing itinerary? Preparing for launch of new boat, a Boréal 52. We recently applied to 3 companies, with a goal in the next year to include Svalbard, then down to Patagonia. We were denied coverage from 2 companies, including Jack line and Pantanius. Our broker for our old boat, based in New Zealand, was able to get Lloyds to insure, but for $21,000 USD!!! We have over 25,000 recent blue water miles experience, and have never filed an insurance claim in 18 years owning 46’ boat. Who are others using, specifically for high latitudes? (We have heard that the last 2 years have seen many companies refuse to insure for high lats). Thanks for any help

I suspect, but do not know, most people go without insurance.

$21,000 buys bigger, heavier anchors, top quality chain rode, top of the line radar, and possibly medical evacuation insurance....

Re: Insurance for high latitudes?

Boat US wants to charge me almost $7000 US for a boat valued at 192K and a cruising limit of only the East coast of the US, the Bahamas, and part of the east coast of Canada. $21,000 to cover a boat worth over 600K and the cruising grounds you want seems like a deal to me. You should go for it.

Re: Insurance for high latitudes?

I was insured with IMIS for some time.
Now part of this group https://www.gowrie.com/Marine-Insura...neProgram.aspx

That was for NZ to Chile and south to - I think- 60S . It covered Cape Horn.

I recall about $US3000 for $120,000. Was insured from 2004 until about 2009 when they said I had to have her surveyed by a surveyor on some select list. Boat was in TdF - nearest acceptable surveyor was in Rio.
I have self insured since then except where required.
