boat insurance for cruising; is this quote high?

Hello all,

I just got a quote back from Bluewater Insurnance for my 1973 Hudson Force 50 valued at 120,000. They want $2,900.00 per year for insurance for cruising. We will only be able to sail for three months at a time and then are at work for three months. In theory, this means that the boat insurance is nearly $3,000 for only six months of sailing and six months of sitting on dry land.

I have only purchased local boat insurance in the past and it is not this expensive. What are others paying for a similar boat. If you pay significantly less, please provide information and the contact info for your insurance company.

You may want to search some of the different cruising discussion boards for feedback on Bluewater. Here is one example of some of the feedback I have read. There are similar discussions on this forum as well.

Paul,

Thanks for the feedback. I read the information at the link above and will look at other insurance providers. So again I ask to those others out here, what do you pay for insurance for ocean cruising and with what company do you have your boat insured?

Sounds similar to the ratio we paid in the EU.
