Put-in-Bay

Just curious if anyone has been to Put-in-Bay we have a 60 foot Viking and need information about the best time to visit, and any boating tips we can get for the area?

Re: Put-in-Bay

We were there last July 4th. Plenty of docks and a large mooring field with water taxi. Pretty busy place. Docked at The Crow's Nest.

Ice cream shop was closed. You can rent golf carts to tour the island. But we walked everywhere. Seemed really busy but were told traffic was off due to Covid. There is a nice museum for the Battle of Lake Erie where Perry was anchored. Perry's fleet had been built in Erie

Erie and Cleveland would be alternative stops as you travel.

Been there. It’s a huge party area. I thought it looked like a nice, protected harbor to get some sleep in. Nope. Be ready to be up all night.

Thanks. We were looking at staying at a marina a little off the beaten path and trying one of those Put-in-Bay Golf Cart Rentals to get around. Are ALL the marinas loud or just the ones near the bars?

The harbor can be rough during a windy North East breeze but mostly it's calm. The town bars can be loud as can the municipal docks. I would recommend you make reservations at the Crews Nest, it's quiet and a little more protected. Put in Bay can be rowdy but it's a lot of fun, we've visited hundreds of times.

There is a lot of information at www.putinbay.com. I've been there many times. Check out the events that are going on and decide when you want to visit. If you have a spare liver, you should bring that as well.

Everywhere is close to the bars! Although crews nest and west is quieter. The mooring field is the best for noise . There is a reason people call the whole island put in bay, when it's really just the town - the island is pretty small!
And really , it's more the day of the week , or what week it is .. if it's not pirates weekend, Christmas in July , one of the regattas , etc. then Sunday to Thursday is pretty calm .. Friday and sat can be off the hook , and frankly, pretty much a turn off if you aren't pretty open minded. Leave Thursday, the creeper old guys start showing up Thursday to get their dockside spots at the muni docks for the late night ' bambis' that miss the last ferry. ( anyone that has been there gets this) .
Wind from the north east can be bad unless you are tucked inside a dock, and its shallow all over around the islands- just FYI! Seems like every time we are there, some idiot runs aground trying to cut inside of Gibraltar..
Been there a lot- if it's party time, and you are in the mood- it's a great place , if you aren't - head to Kelly's or middle bass .
Some neat things to see outside the party - the memorial, some wineries, etc..so it's worth a visit, just time it right!

Exclamation Put-in-Bay

Christmas In July hasn't been a thing for a few years. It's been cancelled until further notice.
