Viking 8 man Rescu liferaft with fiberglass enclosure

I have the following Viking Rescyou 8 person life raft stamped 05/17 that is now slightly past due for 3 year certification. This has the fiberglass canister with hydro release kit.

Located in Southern Ca (Santa Barbara) if you want to pick it up. Not sure how difficult to ship as there are lithium batteries and flares on board.
Asking $1600 and have been quoted $800 to $1400 to recert. New ones are around $3600.

Heading further offshore next spring, so thought I may like to have a new one if someone would like to have a relatively newer one. As you know, current certification is not required for pleasure vessels.

"Stamped 5/17" -- is that the manufacture date, or the last service?

Sorry it was not clear. New in 2017 stamped 05/17 from Mfg, time for first recertification in 2020.

I have a 6-person version of this raft in soft valise case that was first put into service Jan 2020 - so still has lots of life. Will sell for $1500 plus shipping in US.

Are you serious? Hijacking another person’s ad post to sell yours?

Why not piggyback. This is something you probably wouldn't want to pay shipping on anyway. I would be interested in Santa Barbara one but not Texas. Do you know the dimensions of the case and the weight? Thanks

Because jclark took the trouble to make an ad in order to sell his raft. Piggybacking kind of dilutes his efforts, dontcha think?

I agree on both counts.

Remember the days of "For Sale" bulletin boards in offices... well it wasn't limited to just one post at a time.

If it were up to me we would have a single thread for "Life Rafts for sale" and just keep adding to it. Makes it easier to post and easier for those shopping.

Ha ha... don't hold your breath! But if it's a spliff...well by all means...hold your breath.

While it certainly is good practice, life raft certification and re-certification for US documented vessels (and maybe some state registered ones as well) is only required for commercial operations. Life rafts are not required for pleasure craft used strictly for that purpose.

It may not be REQUIRED in some countries to service your life rafts (it IS required for UK flag vessels), it would be the height of foolishness not to do so, if you're carrying a life raft.

It is unfortunate that it is so expensive in the U.S. In the UK it only costs about £150 plus consumables plus hydro testing the cylinder every 3 services or so.

Carrying a life raft with in-date service is OBLIGATORY for UK flag vessels over a certainly length (I think it's 40').

In cold water like where I sail, the raft can save your bacon -- you would be dead in minutes if you had to go into the water without a drysuit. So I am paranoid about it, and carry TWO rafts. Both serviced regularly.
