2020 6hp tohatsu.

Bought new in July estimate less than 10 hours on motor. Downsized my dinghy and getting a smaller outboard.

How much smaller of an outboard? The only difference between the Tohatsu 4hp; 5hp; and 6hp is the carb. It might be more cost effective to just buy a 4hp carb and swap it with the one you have.

Smart move Tkarrde, and I just made similar move from an even lighter outboard, a 59 pound 4.0 Yamaha to a 37 pound 2.5 hp Yamaha, also without reverse. I purchased the heavier motor 14 years ago for the extra power in current and the reverse gear. However, being 14 years older I expect to be much happier with losing 22 pounds in engine weight each time I move outboard from dinghy to stern rail mount and reverse is absolutely unnecessary anyway. Hopefully the loss of power will not prove to be too much of a trade-off. Best wishes!

I enjoy my 2.5 HP and my inflatable dink.

Did the Bahamas last year, and really, not being able to plane was not that much of an issue. We have time while cruising. Why speeding?
