Sorry, no. Shipping is the most efficient means of moving goods around the planet, from food to medicine to your paddle board to your phone to just about every part on your boat. Knee-jerk, ill-informed reactions like yours leads to poor decision making at every level. You'll work the rest of your life trying to make up for the ecological impact of building your Oceanis 38.

The skipper who was a serving RN officer at the time was fined £3000 with £100,000 (that's correct £100,000) costs. He is now in the RNR as a lieutenant, I think he should have lost his rank as a consequence.

whilst you may think the people who do this are experts, they still have a responsibility to make their intentions clear to the crew on the bridge of these vessels. They cannot do that if they are hidden under the bows of the vessel and if they got into difficulties through no fault of their own (hitting a submerged object as an example) the bridge crew would not know or be able to do anything about it, as such it is extremely irresponsible action and should be condemned outright by any right-thinking mariner.

They aren't under the bow - they're in the bow-wave which is generated to the side of the ship. I think it's fairly obvious what their intentions are - very much like the intentions of dolphins and pilot whales are, when they ride the bow-waves. If they get into trouble, they pass down the side of the ship - no action required by the ship. It really is a non-issue.

Why would they blame the capt or pilot for those idiots?

Second that! Sounds like many of my neighbors preach save the Santa Monica Bay, our oceans, and want clean air as they live in their 10,000sq beach front property, drive the big SUV, and own their private airplane.
Do what you preach...get rid of all your worldly possessions, start picking nuts and berries, and do not use any of the modern conveniences....including antibiotics. Oh...don't forget to turn off your A/C when its 120 degrees in your area. See how long you will last. For thee but not for me.

Deep pockets and blame others for their actions. I prefer to hear "at least he died doing what he loved most"....and leave the captain out of it. Unfortunately, very few take responsibilities for their actions today and blame others for their poor decisions and lack of good judgement.

Also that is way outside the navigable channel and some of the organized groups work with the Houston Pilots for transit info on deep draft vessels. It works for everyone.
