State registration and foreign travel

state registration is not accepted in the french caribbean. your boat is not confiscated, you will be asked to leave. there was some talk at one point of fines, i'm not up to date on that.
the virgin islands is exempt from this rule as you must have a u.s. address to document a vessel. french customs will ask if you LIVE in the virgin islands. it is $5/foot to register a boat in the virgins and very simple. dinghy must be registered as well. perhaps easier for you than documentation.
